I needed to take a break. Doomscrolling is a terrible way to get through a pregnancy. Now I'm back, calling my senators and congressional representative, about to reach out to the state AG office. If you haven't installed #5calls I highly recommend it.

Also true of the American revolution and the US Civil War - looots of losses and retreating, 'make them fight for every inch of ground' tactics. Check the thread - defeating an enemy on your home turf is a long slog, but it can be done.

This post is unavailable.

I've spent all day zillow-scrolling to see if we can afford to move our child into a better rated school district before he starts kindergarten. I don't even need a 8-9/10, but I'd like to get him out of 2s and 3s.

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends: 1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration; 2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you; 3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

While we're all talking about Luigi and the conditions of the jail he's being held in, let's hold space to remember that all of the 'evidence' against him has been circumstantial at best. There is no DNA, witness testimony or confession tying him to the crime or even the scene of the crime.

He's lawyered up and has shut up, so stop with the 'he did the right thing'. Until and unless he's convicted, he did nothing except 'look suspicious in a McDonald's'.

I spent one of the best days of my life in NYC. I wanted to walk around and enjoy the beautiful day and see the city on foot - multiple locals stopped to see if I needed help, and when I explained they pointed me to their favorite parks and scenic avenues, or walked me there themselves.

Anil Dash@anildash.com

Just saw two women on the subway take care of a person in dureee immediately and easily, cause that’s what the fuck we do in New York. I haven’t remind myself sometimes because they lie about us and denigrate us, but the heart of how we interact in person is with compassion.

They told me how they moved into the city and from where, or how long their family had lived in their neighborhood. Pointed out the best food and the nicest tree in the park to eat under. Helped me navigate the subway system back to Penn station, even. There's a lot of kindness in NYC.

Boosting this signal. I used Spot On when I was tracking my ovulation because it didn't share my data with anyone ever, but it's a big buggy. Any other suggestions for a tracking app that doesn't share with the state?

Doug DeJulio@dfjdejulio.bsky.social

The ovulation tracking app, "Ovia", now mandates you identify what state you live in. Delete immediately and warn anyone who might need to know.

Sorry to public defender post, but: it's wild to watch people hop on a name given by the cops and do a little dox feasting.

It was a murder, but not a crime.

I can't stress this enough: If you think a CEO being shot down in broad daylight is terrifying to a wealthy ruling class, imagine the terror that would strike them if a jury looks at a smoking gun and, with a shrug, returns "We think he's not guilty."

I hope this man is on an island somewhere with a bag of real money and a drink. Also hoping we keep seeing this Benny Hill theme shit from the nypd

Here’s my pitch for why you should read this book: it’s not about what Derek and I have to say, tho I think we make a persuasive case; it’s the stunning and riveting and never-before-heard testimony of former players. Their stories are *still* shocking to me. uncpress.org/book/9781469...

I was preparing to pitch an op-ed on the nationwide protests calling for President Yoon's resignation, aiming to provide global context amid the limited international coverage. Given the urgency, I’m sharing it now. I didn’t expect events to escalate this quickly. #SouthKorea #Democracy

I liveskyed the 2024 Martial Law Declaration of Korea. This is the thread.

Anton Hur@antonhur.com

According to Korean constitutional law, if martial law is declared in a state of non-war, the National Assembly can vote to make the president stand it down. The National Assembly is gathering now. We are just now getting footage of inside the National Assembly.

Texas and Georgia are blocking the review and release of information on the deaths of pregnant women from abortion bans. The GOP knows the stories of pregnant women dying preventable deaths sounds bad. So they're making sure you never hear about them.

salon.comRepublicans don't care if women die from abortion bans — but they don't want you to know about itWomen will keep dying, but the GOP is working hard to destroy the evidence

Thank you for sharing this in real time!

Anton Hur@antonhur.com

I am *astonished* Yoon tried to pull this off in 2024, in THIS country, after EVERYTHING he must've seen our citizenry do in recent years and throughout history. I will ALWAYS believe in Korean democracy. ARREST YOON SUK YEOL IMPEACH YOON SUK YEOL

This is the energy. All this pearl clutching, 'you're going to give Trump an excuse to break norms', moral high ground bs is over. The high ground didn't win the election, so now it's time to batten down and protect who and what you can.

We’re not accepting complaints about the Hunter Biden pardon unless you also complained about the Steve Bannon, Michael Flynn, Roger Stone, and Paul Manafort pardons.

Attacking Republicans for being fascist without holding them to the rule of law? These attacks slide off the backs of average Americans like water off a duck. If it was that bad you should have arrested them. Now we have to have arguments on inflation with politicians that shouldn't be in the room.

The way January 6th has been prosecuted makes it look like any riot in the US - the rubes that went are in prison, even some of the planners. But the members of Congress that gave them guided tours are still in office, and that biggest boogieman Trump faced no consequences at all.

I don't think the fascist line of attack is working against Republicans. Ime uninformed voters don't notice or care. Because honestly, if January 6th was that bad, why didn't any of the participating politicians go to prison for it? Or even, why weren't any of them banned from running again?

Pasteurization is an astoundingly cheap, effective public health measure that prevents thousands of deaths per year, but go off. I'm just mad I can't quarantine these people - they put everyone around them at risk.

Phil Lewis@phillewis.bsky.social

In Alabama, it is illegal to sell raw milk for human consumption due to health risks but a “secret society” of raw milk consumers tell local farms the product is for their pets — when it’s really for themselves “It feels like a drug deal”

I'm getting super frustrated with politics in my skyline so I'm going to change the subject for a minute. I don't wear makeup because (no particular order): I'm too lazy to do that every day But I have dark under eye circles so if I start wearing makeup & then stop people are gonna think I'm sick

I hate the way makeup feels on my skin unless it's airbrushed Who has time for airbrushing? Most makeup is in plastic I'm light skinned so I need a different foundation every 3 months Who has time for that??? So I don't wear makeup and then I feel bad for being underdressed.

No thank you. Here for the ratio and to let you know this is some bullshit.

I want to see Wicked because I love the stage show and am theater-kid adjacent. I don't want to see Wicked because I hate Cynthia Erivo and don't want to see her succeed even if she put in the work. Idk which side is gonna win out on this.

Some things to know about me (1/x): 1. Another elder millennial, I guess 2. I left twitter and didn't pick up anything else because I was waiting to see where Black twitter would land 3. Found the #blacksky starter pack and jumped in for that 4. Definitely an otaku. Recovering weeaboo.

I voted for a competent, boring administration bc I prefer Hollywood drama to political drama. Presidents on the left, Don't Worry Darling/Wicked/It Ends With Us press drama on the right. Is that so hard, America???

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

this is exactly the type of piece I had in mind when I wrote yesterday that "there’s no doubt that compared to Biden, the Trump show is good for scoops and clicks, and the excitement is palpable in some of the copy we’re reading these days about the hot intrigue leaking out of Mar-a-Lago."
