If corporations are people, why aren't they taxed like people?

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

Effective 2025 federal tax rates paid by these corporations: Alphabet: 8.01% AT&T: 4.6% Meta: 3.57% General Motors: 3.09% Amazon: 1.37% Exxon Mobil: 1.31% Disney: -1.57% CVS Health: -3.88% Income tax rate paid by the typical American: 14.5% This is what a rigged system looks like.

I don’t have much sympathy or grace for my fellow Americans who went along with all of this, or any of it. Their choices have killed a million Americans, for nothing; killed likely even more foreign nationals, including many children, for nothing;

Everyone knows Hitler killed 6 million jews, but did you know he was responsible for deaths of another 5 million people? Gay, gypsy, and people with disabilities were also targeted. 5 million of them.

NOW seems like a good time to up the energy around demanding the rest of the Epstein files be released, as the law says they should be. What he did to those young girls is much worse than whatever he's doing with Natalie Harp.

I’ve been in or around politics for over a half-century now. I’ve watched as corporations and the super-rich flooded D.C. with campaign cash and ransacked our system. It won't be easy, but here’s how we break the corporate oligarchy and return power to the people.

A recent survey found that 92% of U.S. adults have delayed or avoided medical care due to high costs. Meanwhile, a new study from Yale estimates that Medicare for All would save over 114,000 lives and $1 trillion a year. If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have universal healthcare.

Food companies wanted deregulation. Now there are dozens of recalls across the country. Mining companies wanted deregulation. Now the black lung rate is at a 45-year high. Financial companies wanted deregulation. Now financial losses to fraud are the highest on record. Noticing a pattern?

This is what it looks like when we have a president that's focused on enriching himself over the good of the country. Billions of dollars we all pay in taxes are being stolen.

Just posting this because, as of yesterday, the US national debt surpassed $40 trillion for the first time. The GOP: the party of fiscal responsibility. 🥴

When Trump talks about supporting our military, he's talking about the Military Industrial Complex corporations that produce things for the military and who he's invested in or getting paid by, not the actual soldiers that do the work.

I feel like America wasn't outraged enough when Roe v. Wade was overturned. We were upset for a few days, then everyone just went on their merry way. Be fucking outraged!

We've all spent an average of $2,500 a year more because of the tariffs.

Apple: ~$2.2 billion Nike: $986 million FedEx: ~$800 million Amazon: $640 million General Motors: $500 million Giant corporations are raking in millions in tariff refunds and getting even richer. But remember: corporations passed tariff costs on to you. Where's YOUR refund?

This hasn’t gotten much attention, but it should. While everyone was focused on Schedule F, the administration created something even broader. On July 30, a new OPM rule took effect that creates a second way to fire federal employees outside the normal civil service process.
