After the first round elections, Congressman André Janones created a WhatsApp channel titled “Lula’s Army.” It ballooned to 10 million people following his commands on how to behave online to counteract Meta’s far-right-favouring algorithms. The right knows how to use socials. We must learn, too.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Something I’ve been trying to encourage people to do in the visual strategy trainings I lead with my co-conspirator Ange Tran is remind people that you could just take out a marker and write on a piece of paper like we do for protest signs.

Why are AI fliers so prevalent? In my opinion, it's not just that they're easy and cheaper than a designer, it's because most people have terrible taste and think they are cool. I will not see this in my online art bubble, but the fact is, most people think bad shit is better than good shit.

In 2009 at a civic tech conference Charles Lenchner announced an adhoc session on organizing blue collar communities online. Elana Levin was the only person who came. So we started a training conference in NYC to help the labor movement & community-based orgs start digital organizing.
