Pretty cool there is so much Sens chatter on here now. That's literally the only thing I miss about that other site.

Thinking about Preston Manning this morning, watching his life's work crumbling. He could have literally done anything else with his career and still got 25%.

This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead

Pretty cool that the Ottawa Senators are playing a preseason game but TSN and Sportsnet are only airing their junior game tonight...

I've been concerned about the end of the information age since I first started experimenting with LLM's a few years ago. It may be very close, and there is no effective response, and no idea what might be next.

AI doom or not, something has shifted with AI recently. The guardrails that kept AI sitting in a chatbox are gone, the models are better, there's more compute. AI agents are everywhere. They are annoying as hell. IMO the situation is going to get much worse www.404media.co/theres-a-100...

Once in a while I think, maybe I should log in to my Apple account, and then Apple reminds me they must have my credit card on file or I can't sign in. And then I can't remember why I even need to sign in. I don't think iTunes is even a thing anymore.

Unforgivable.

The Ontario Science Centre has laid off 30 workers including the entire science department, The Canadian Press has learned. Science centre CEO Paul Kortenaar told employees at a meeting Thursday that the organization is being restructured.

Dear Amazon Prime. Rewinding your stupid shows should not trigger ads! I'm trying to find my place in a show and I've had to watch like 10 minutes in commercials. This is broken UX!

Hi Internet! I'm Drew and THIS IS MY FACE. If this GIF has ever brought you joy in the past, I humbly ask you to consider making a donation to the National MS Society. It would mean a lot to me and to those I know affected by the disease! Donate at blinkingguy.com

5 Simpsons line I utter most off the top of my head: !. My cat's breath smells like cat food. 2. Bad bees! Ow, they're defending themselves somehow! 3. I'm cold and there are wolves after me. 4. Don't make me run. I'm full of chocolate. 5. It's still good! It's still good!

I mean, the way things are going south of the border, it might not be the worst thing politically and economically to be less affiliated with and dependent on them...

Having been part of similar meetings, I can only assume this is happening in post secondary institutions everywhere. And now IT departments are starting to block some AI use cases. This is not sustainable.

The search for AI ROI continues. University admin gave a presentation to faculty senate on AI. They begged us to discover use cases for them. All they have is a bespoke Ai tutoring agent and hopes and dreams for improved internal operations All senate had to offer was complaints about cheating

its frustrating because like... i don't think AI tools are automatically of the devil or anything. i think if we had an entirely different kind of society, i wouldn't be as upset about it. maybe we'd have better AI tools. but we have the society we have, and the tech industry is the way that it is

This. 100%. Almost every online interaction feels yucky and scammy these days. Dark times for the internet.

I feel like an issue that would connect well with voters would be doing anything at all to slow the current progression toward "absolutely everything now is a scam"

May be about time politicians start running on platforms that promise to bring down insurance premiums. The cost of insurance is out of control.

Ontario spends less on a university student than any other province: $10,481, against a national average of $17,424 (OCUFA). The Ford government's 6% increase in February doesn't change that ranking. It lifted the tuition freeze too. Students make up the difference.
