Watching ice go out is like watching a clock to see if the hands are actually moving. It feels slow, but it’s electric, because it means cabin season is about to begin.

As early as this week, the Senate could vote on whether to roll back environmental protections for the Boundary Waters. The BWCA is one of Minnesota’s most prized natural resources and we must preserve it for future generations. I’m urging every Senator to vote no on this bill.

I’ve been camping and canoeing in the Boundary Waters and Quetico since I was a boy. It’s one of the most amazing pieces of vast wilderness left that can be explored relatively easily by canoe. This is IMPORTANT. PLEASE GET INVOLVED.

Minnesotans have made clear: they don’t want mining in the Boundary Waters. But instead of bolstering its protections, today House leadership is forcing a rushed vote to permanently strip the Boundary Waters of its federal protections and open it up to toxic copper sulfide mining.

Persistent chemicals like hexachloroethane don’t just disappear. They linger in soil and grass, build up in living tissue, and magnify up the food chain. In places where kids play, even low exposure can pose long-term health and environmental risks.

It is unclear whether the highly corrosive and carcinogenic hexachloroethane, or HC smoke, has been deployed in the immigration enforcement surge in Minnesota. It was used during the 2020 protests in Portland, Ore., following the Minneapolis police killing of George Floyd.

The Boundary Waters belongs to all of us and its protections aren’t guaranteed. Join us at the Minnesota State Capitol on Feb 25. We’ll connect you with your legislators, cover training, and help you meet them in person so your voice is impossible to ignore. 💧

This is important to us because what’s happening right now in Congress could permanently change protections for a beloved wilderness area. With everything else going on, this quietly moved forward while most people weren’t paying attention and it should concern all of us.

House Republicans passed a bill to roll back environmental protections for Minnesota’s Boundary Waters today.     We must continue to protect the BWCA for generations of Minnesotans to come – and this bill is not how we do that.

PM2.5 and ozone aren’t abstract science—they’re the pollutants that slip deep into our lungs, trigger asthma, strain hearts, and cut lives short. When we ignore their impact, we ignore our neighbors’ health. Clean air isn’t optional. www.nbcnews.com/science/envi...

New EPA rule would limit states' and tribes' ability to protect waterways from infrastructure projects, including pipelines and facilities tied to AI. By narrowing reviews and speeding approvals, the rule could leave more streams, wetlands, and drinking water at risk. https://act.elpc.org/49lLM6B

Friendly reminder that government spending on Great Lakes Restoration averages a $3:$1 ROI.

House funding package for FY26 largely maintains funding levels for Great Lakes & clean water programs, with modest increases in several areas. Given the significant cuts proposed in 2025, this outcome represents a hard-fought victory for the #GreatLakes. #CleanWater buff.ly/YszgPlf

Meet Bob O'Hara. 67 consecutive summers in the BWCA. It began in 1959, 2 days after HS graduation, inspired by Sigurd Olson. Now 84, he has paddled tens of thousands of miles across the Canadian Arctic and still returns every year. His hope for the next 50 years? “That it is still a wilderness.”
