Most Christians know the biblical story of Samson, a hella-strong dumbass who stupidly trusted his girlfriend. But if you read about his origin story in Judges 13, you find out that his dad was also a dumbass. So in Samson's defense, he correctly assumed women were smarter than him.

Judges 13 is a short story that explains a lot. Samson's dad is Manoah. His mom is never named. An angel goes to his mom and tells her what's up. She believes him. Manoah doesn't know who this rando is. Even after the dude ascends in a fire. And Samson's unnamed mom is like, "really‽"

It's just wild we know the name of the dad but not the mom. Manoah's name got written down for all eternity. Like, "So a dumbass begat a dumbass." And his wife was like, "no you better keep my name outta this nonsense. "

"AI" never should have been made available to the general public. Ever. It should have remained in the hands of researchers, computer scientists, and a handful of engineers. LLM technology is too friggin' dangerous.

So uhhhhhh… Apparently meta's muse "AI" is just straight up doxxing people to strangers on FB marketplace??? This has the potential to hurt so so many people, and I genuinely wonder how long before they roll out a fix for it.

I'm watching Mortal Kombat II on HBOMax and it's wild because the CGI is just as good as when I played it on Sega Genesis.

It's weird being a graduate student because I've been reading linguistics books (including textbooks) for a few years and now all of a sudden I can.. just ... talk ... to some professor who's an expert in a field. I have to constantly remind myself not to feel starstruck.

Software Engineers who I feel are the most unethical: 0. Engineers of the firmware and software for printers 1. Social Media UX engineers 2. AI prompt engineers

Let's suppose that for vampires, blood type mattered. As in, vampires couldn't drink just anybody's blood. They could only drink blood of a compatible blood type. That would mean that most, if not all, vampires, would need to be AB+. And the countries with the most AB+ people are the Koreas.

This would also mean that the people most PROTECTED from vampires would be those with AB- blood. That would mean that vampires would avoid Belarus, Bulgaria, and Slovakia.

- So a while back I wrote a short story. - A friend turned that short story into a script. - That same friend, and a producer, turned that script into a short film. -That short film will premier soon. Is there any way this could help me find publishers for other short stories?

I'm trying to learn a little bit more about a Native American language (Menominee) and ... lemme tell ya. It's a terrible feeling when you realize that almost all linguistic research was done by a single linguist in the 1960's. It's... so very sad.

I have five goals I want to accomplish by the time I'm 50: 1. help author a W3C specification 2. Conduct research that gets published in an academic journal 3. Write a book 4. Complete a half-ironman 5. Walk the Camino de Santiago

As of this week - proposal for a spec was turned down - my first paper was rejected - my book proposal was rejected - twice couldn't convince my body to wake up early-enough to run Lotta rejection. Even from me. Gonna keep trying to learn, though.

Me: Wat‽ No. I want time off in July. Only July. July 30th. In 2031. Slok: Amplification by any other name would smell as sweet Me: Dude I just want Wednesday off. Can I take Wednesday off? Please. Can you ask Clodio? Slok: [thinking]

Slok: My words fly up; my thoughts remain below. Requests without hours never to Clodio go. Circumlocutive ponderings flow Me: I don't have enough hours? I do. Just ask Clodio. Clodio is still here, right? Slok: Clodio Clodio wherefore art thou Clodio. Deny thy service, refuse thy name.

I really don't care if the photo of Mitch McConnell is AI or photoshopped. I care that there's so little trust in our government and our media that this is our default response.

And by extension, the folks who were most excited about AI doing <job> are also those folks who were least interested in <job> at all. Oh, you're using AI to read and write your emails and talk to your subordinates? Weird flex on being a shit manager, but go on, king. Tell me more.

The folks who are most excited about AI writing code seem to be the ones who were the least-excited about actually writing code to begin with.

Am I wrong in the assertion that the likes of Cursor and Claude work primarily by an LLM generating bash/shell scripts or Python scripts? Are our AI-coding agents wrappers for Python to write other kinds of code?

I do my very best to be like Jesus and love everyone and not be judgemental. But then I meet people that say, "I love the design of the CyberTruck," and I'm like, "I think Jesus is disappointed in this one."

In my linguistics program we don't have to do a thesis. But I __want__ to do a thesis. I'm very excited that I met with one of my professors, and he thinks my research idea is a good idea. So everyone wish me luck as I try to convince a professor to be my advisor.

I'm waiting for them to bring out: "He's resting his eyes from all that reading." "He's inspecting his eyelids for holes." Anyone got other ones? #MarcoRubio #TrumpNotSleeping

I'm working on my first academic paper. I sent it to a friend for review. She (rightfully) calls out a claim I made that my topic is under-researched. She says I need proof. (again, fair) Any of y'all researching the use of Bro and Bruh on Bluesky?

Y'all last week I presented at my first #linguistics conference and it was the kinda experience that I think deeply restored my soul. I'm 44 and I've finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up.

@repericsorensen.bsky.social quick question... Can you personally reset your home wifi password?

Frank M. Taylor @paceaux.com

My standard for an electable politician is set at, "can reset their own home Wifi password," and also, "not a fascist." I realize this is an incredibly low bar but honestly it's where we need to set it if we're gonna turn this country around.

There is one book I have read way more than any other in my life. Not the Bible. Which I've read 2x. Not the New Testament ( 7x) Not Waiting for Godot, which I've read at least 7 times. Ninja Gaiden, a Worlds of Power book. I read it TEN times.

One of the single best ways a foreign adversary could do damage to US infrastructure would start by using "reply all" to a company wide email with a 5mb attachment. RIP my wife's inbox this morning.

I think the best thing @bencollins.bsky.social could do once the Onion takes over InfoWars would be to very slowly through slow news cycles replace the content with increasingly absurd content. Don't redesign it overnight. Don't replace stuff over night. Make it a slow troll.
