East Potomac costs $42 to play and hosts thousands of people each year. A lot of the players are beginners. A lot of them don't have that much money. A lot of them are black. This is the course Donald Trump has decided shouldn't exist, and in the past, he's been fairly explicit about why not

Bluesky I know you do not care about golf. But I am telling you that in this specific case, you SHOULD care about golf. I explain in @slate.com what the Trump administration is doing to East Potomac Golf Course in D.C. slate.com/culture/2026...

This is kinda a throwaway line in an otherwise fine Times story but...I don't think it's true? I can't think of a single way that AI has affected my personal life, other than the fact that I have to hear about it nonstop.

I've been immersed in research on Reconstruction in Lousiana and it's a very difficult truth to absorb that the white terrorist movement in the South was among the most successful terrorist movements in global history. Took 10 years but it won a total & complete victory through murder and atrocity.

Also, I’m always amused at how conservatives never apply their (not entirely incorrect) logic of You Can’t Give a Blank Taxpayer Check to Education/Healthcare/Other Public Goods, It Will Incentivize Waste to Cops and Troops

Trump voters in 2016 were happy to admit that he's a corrupt liar. They just thought Hillary was more corrupt and dishonest. Don't know about this guy specifically, but a huge percentage of the conservatives "turning on Trump" now are gonna find excuses to see Dems as a bigger threat in 2028.

The problem has never really been that conservative voters are reluctant to criticize Trump. The problem is a relentless right-wing media apparatus that tells them Democrats are worse.

It would be interesting to check back in with this guy in like a year or two to see what his thoughts are, given that he has his mom and her friend pouring poison in his ear about how pierre was a white-hating suicide bomber & bad waiter, & the other trucker is still complaining about immigrants

Pretty clear to me there’s a very good case against this man for mass murder, and I’m saying that in as measured a fashion as I can. He’s order the killing of 234 people under no plausible war or legal justification. I am skeptical he will ever face legal accountability for til his but he should.

I just honestly can't get over that Save Women Sports, an anti-trans group could only find five trans athletes competing K through 12. Five. The NCAA president testified a year and a half ago or so that there were less than 10 college level trans athletes. What the fuck are we doing, people

Legalized slots and other casino games in your pocket is the real prize for this predatory cash-extraction industry—way bigger potential market, with even more addiction potential. Sports are, to put it crudely, just the tip!

Not only did I meet Robert Kraft, I worked for him. His kid Jonathan asked me to “remove the black music” from my gameday playlist in ‘94 & I refused so they fired me. I was the cheerleader director at the time. I sued them for wrongful termination and won. So yes, I know that motherfucker.

Did you ever meet Bob Kraft?

the truly crazy making part of all of this is that voter fraud EFFECTIVELY DOES NOT EXIST. you have a better chance of finding an actual leprechaun at the end of the rainbow than of finding evidence of voter fraud that influences an election

Jay Willis@jaywillis.net

Genuinely an insane paragraph from Sam Alito. “Voter fraud is real and scary and we have to stop it, so the fact that implementing Trump’s mail ballot rule will disenfranchise millions is legally irrelevant.” Brain melted. A right-wing podcaster in a robe. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

Many boot-camp activities at Alpha School appear focused on business education. They cover books such as Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win. In reviewing more than 40 students’ accounts, I did not see a single reference to a work of fiction.

Have seen this Nature piece about the effects of X's algorithm mentioned again and it bears repeating; exposure to a right wing algorithm makes you - measurably and predictably - more right wing, even after you stop using it. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

It always seems like it can't be true, but it is: American businesses often pay more to try to defeat a union drive or contract negotiation that they would if they recognized the union and agreed to better pay and benefits prospect.org/2026/09/08/u...

Fox News complains that underage teenage girls aren’t getting pregnant enough: “The problem is teens and young adults. From ages 15-19, the fertility rate is down 70% in the last 2 decades, which means we are telling people who are young not to have babies.”
