My second novel comes out exactly one year from today, August 27th 2027,. 'The House in Drowning Lake' is about the mysterious dwelling found when a small town drains its reservoir. Damp creepiness ensues. Pictured, me writing it.

Few things I love more than an ancient blood-drinking creature .

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

I've been part of one or two productions that not only failed but felt cursed, but this one was so bad you can tell the people who worked on this one are still affected 50 years later.

If you’re a TV writer (or doing any collaborative creative job) you will encounter problems in other people’s work. So this week’s #Scriptsky #Screenwriting thread is about THE THREE WAYS OF DEALING WITH SOMEONE ELSE’S ISSUE. Two options will lead to more problems and one will keep you employed.

This was great, you should read this.

I'm happy to restore to online glory, one of my fave Reel Toronto columns, where I talked to @edgarwright.bsky.social about Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Toronto's people and places and whether the movie might become a cult classic (Spoiler Alert: It did.) davidfleischer.substack.com/p/where-scot...

Our dad always told a story about the day he’d decided competitive boxing was not for him—it was after the first punch landed when sparring with Chuvalo at the Toronto gym he trained at

George Chuvalo has died. Born on this day in 1937, he was a five-time Canadian heavyweight champion and twice fought Muhammad Ali. In 93 fights, he was never knocked down. Ali called him the toughest man he ever fought. He had 73 wins, 64 by knockout. RIP Champ. 📸 Toronto Sun

feeling unexpectedly emotional as we visit saerbeck, a town of just 7200 in central germany that formed a climate municipality. they produce 4.5x the electricity they need, and have developed a whole array of climate solutions. one of them? a climate action curriculum that starts in kindergarten.

Coyote vs Acme at the Revue Cinema was a wild collection of elderly couples, families with kids, groups of young people, pairs of middle aged dude friends, you name it. Everyone laughing, delighted, applauding at the end. Stuffed with gags and some heart too.

Pete Kleinow was a veritable genius. Not only as a stop motion animator whose work lives on in projects as varied as Gumby and The Terminator, but as a musician whose pedal steel guitar is featured on so many classic songs of the 70s. Jim and I were lucky enough to see him perform at the Palomino.

Remembering the extraordinary Peter Kleinow today on his birthday. Kleinow was best known as "Sneaky Pete Kleinow", the pedal steel guitarist from The Flying Burrito Brothers, but he was also a talented stop motion artist who worked on #TheTerminator and #T2JudgmentDay!

I’d like to know as much about *anything• as Eric does about Toronto cinema history.

There are now seventy articles about Toronto cinemas and our moviegoing history up at The Downtown Theatre. Here's a list of the articles by theatre: thedowntowntheatre.substack.com/p/theatres

Lost Sky Pilot Lake is a real one in northern Ontario... gotta be a story there.

Patrick Tarr@patrickt.bsky.social

Trying to come up with an evocative name for a fictional lake in a province with 250,000 real lakes is going to be the end of me.

I certainly had some thoughts to share, even about the very nature of the questions being asked.

Canadian arts and culture folks: the federal government has launched a (methodologically flawed) survey on "the Cultural Sector's readiness for Artificial Intelligence". If you're ready to resist or refuse genAI, here's your chance to let them know. pch.research-recherche.ca/f/s.aspx?lan...

I want people to understand the full impact of the devastation that First Nations in Canada are facing. It's NOT just that people and wildlife are losing their homes...it's the history that is being lost for generations to come.
