I don't want a city on Mars. I don't want AI in everything. I want to repost meme text with an image made by chatgpt to trick you into subscribing to my content farm. And bees, or whatever.

Fuck you people. Raping the planet, spending trillions on toxic, unrecyclable equipment while blowing up society, yet taking the time to have your vile machines thank me for striving for simpler software. Just fuck you. Fuck you all. I can't remember the last time I was this angry.

In Mongolia, learned how The Software Engineer’s Guidebook ended up being translated to Mongolian: This engineer (Suiribaatar) bought the English version, liked it, and suggested to his company (Nasha Tech) to translate it. The company did it. You can just do things.

God my absolute heart is with the people of Iran, who’ve fought so steadfastly for their own liberation, and are getting fucked half a dozen ways by a whole pantheon of geriatric war criminals while being told they should be grateful for it

Filling in standard psychiatric questionnaires at this point in history is absolutely wild. “Do you ever feel hopeless?” Who doesn’t? And never in a million years I thought I’d have to list “war”, “genocide”, and “climate change” in my top 5 anxieties.

People think that they are judging someone on „merit“ or „performance“ but if you aren’t even considering all the contributing factors that may affect your judgement (i.e. everything that is different and everything that is similar between the other person and you), you are not judging on „merit“.

i think it is interesting that the author of this piece wrote "judging people by race instead of merit has to end" in the context of "DEI and affirmative action are bad"

Talk to people irl, even smart people, and you'll quickly find that the vast majority do not know that AI makes things up, or plagiarizes, or destroys the environment. Knowing the things about AI we take as given here is like knowing internet memes; people who aren't Very Online tend to have no clue

I was in a doctor's office and the doctor looked something up to show me. I was stunned: He read the AI result. I told him I tend to scroll past and avoid the AI result Google shows first as it is not always accurate.

Team is mostly remote, write me any questions you want. I'm an open book, I will answer anything honestly. I can also refer you, I don't gain any compensation from it (I think maybe they donate to an organisation in my name? unsure if they still do that), but maybe it lets you skip the line a bit.

I've cossed more international borders than most, been through checkpoints and searches and have trained human rights activists, journalists and others in staying safe in repressive regimes. In the past few days I've provided some friends with travel advice for no particular reason; here's a thread:

Finally one good piece on news coming from the USA.

Twitter has decided to leave the EU's disinformation code, a voluntary pact that groups together the major social platforms where they agree not to spread disinformation. Just in time for 2024’s global collection of elections, in the US, UK, the EU, Ukraine, Russia, India, Mexico and Taiwan.

You are up to date.
