Here's the fucking thing… before there was AI, the band posters didn't suck. Most kinda ruled, actually. Same goes for event posters & shit. AI isn't making your things any better. It's just making everybody dumber.

So… I was on the CBC a while back taking the hardline "No AI In Band/Event/Local-Advertising" side. I'm told I was being paranoid but I felt like I was kinda set up as the villain in the segment? I was the one standing up for human labour & creativity. Therefore: a very bad guy. Clearly.

if (big if obviously but for many this is the approach) you ignore the pollution/GHG/etc impacts of combusting natural gas it's a completely coherent strategy. Which is why I increasingly think the idea that data centres will net improve climate outcomes by driving renewable growth isn't correct.

Thanks for having me on the show. Keep up the good work, @pauldechene.bsky.social and Aidan Morgan!

We had world expert on the Co-op Refinery, Sean Tucker, on the Queen City Improvement Bureau. He talked about the proposal to put a "work" <cough>scab</cough> camp on site. What could such a development presage for this local industrial overlord? #yqrcc queencityib.com/podcasts/202...

I saw a thing where an economist was talking about how the people who earn actual $1mil+ salaries are very very few & are high-priced professionals like lawyers & plastic surgeons & they actually pay their taxes. The wealth of the ultra-rich, on the other hand, is hidden in investments like land.

All this Democrat triumphalism is predicated upon their fellow Americans not being fucked in the head. I think they are going to be sorely disappointed.

For the first time, the annual UN Emissions Gap report, released Wednesday, states that overshooting 1.5 degrees Celsius of temperature increase is “imminent and unavoidable” and that the goal now is to limit the overshoot by phasing out fossil fuels. More ⬇️ buff.ly/4Xk3UYH

MIND-BLOWING STATS: A record two-thirds of new cars in China are now electric (NEVs*), while combustion-car sales have fallen by two-thirds since they peaked in 2017 – In 2020, ~95% of sales were combustion-engine cars – By Sep 2026, they crashed to 33% – On the flip side, NEVs hit a record 67% 🧵

A thing that bugged me about the CBC & Mansbridge podcast coverage of the referendum was how simpleminded their comparisons to Quebec separatism were. Quebec is a serious socio-linguistic separatist movement. Alberta separatism is a bunch of conspiracy-pilled yokels.

For these Serious Canadian Pundits to suggest that the Alberta separatist sentiment could follow the same trajectory or have the same longevity as Quebec separatism suggests some real anglo misreading of Quebec.

I still haven't checked in with Chantal Hebert on the Alberta referendum. I suspect she would have very little patience with the way the anglos were comparing yeehaw prairie pseudo-separatism with the history of Quebec.

Nice thing to wake up to is the work computer being hijacked by chrome insisting on to downloading a helpful "AI Assistant" I don't want then fuck I click the wrong-ass button & so it has to fucking download & i can't X out it & do anything but wait & i'm just "LET ME DO MY JOB AND FUCK OFF!!!"

What is it with these windows computers & their ability to clog up a morning with popups, downloads, updates. There has to be a "shut off all the bullshit" button in the settings somewhere.

Imagine what the results on these questions would look like if the Alberta NDP had put its back into fighting them from the start. #abpoli

Here's a life lesson… If you're used to getting things done at the last minute, if you are sweaty friends with the spirit of the eleventh hour, don't change. Never try to get things in early. The universe will conspire against you so that you will just wind up stressing for longer.

You know, telephony really peaked in that turn of the 20th to 21st century period. With land lines, I mean. Sound was really clear. Lag didn't even exist yet. You couldn't beat that handset from the Model 500 for comfort. Sure… Carrying a phone in your pocket is better. But quality suffered.

We learned from question 10 of the referendum that Alberta wants to stay in Canada. We learned from the other nine questions that the Canada they want to stay in is not Canada.

Side note… in case you didn't know… you can sit down & drink your coffee at 33 1/3 now. By night, the second floor is a wine bar, but during the day, it's a chill sitting area. One advantage of 33 1/3 is the music here is typically much better than most places.

I did not succeed at knocking out today's work quickly this morning so I will be skipping today's Regina Exec Cmte meeting. Depending on how things go, my plan is to catch up on the scab camp debate from yesterday's RPC either this evening or tomorrow morning. Then Exec after that. #yqrcc

Yeah. I had to miss the Planning Commission meeting today. I worked right through it. And I'll be missing tomorrow's executive committee meeting too. So much still to do. #yqrcc

But! This week on the Queen City Improvement Bureau, we have Sean Tucker, a business prof & labour advocate from the UofR. He'll be talking about the refinery's plan to put up a scab camp. Thu at 7pm on 91.3FM CJTR @accessnowradio.ca #yqrcc

Absolutely not. Humans evolved to live on Earth and there’s no other place that has the right amount of everything we need, like climate, liquid water, mix of oxygen and non-toxic gases in the atmosphere, magnetic field, gravity, puppies, kittens, etc.

yes i'm posting a lot today but i swear i'm working in another tab it's one of those days where the work stuff i'm doing isn't occupying enough of my executive function & that's allowing the brain squirrels space to run rampant over my attention span

A provincial reporter once got very testy with me for insinuating in my writing that the Yellow Vesters (remember them) were primarily motivated by racism. I was informed that, no, it was "economic anxiety." Yeah, how'd that hot take age?

i'm no expert, but i assume that First Nations running out of ballots as residents show up in record numbers is probably an indicator of how things are going politically in Alberta.

At the core of Qs 1 to 5 in AB's referendum is sticking it to immigrants. That's it. Quit trying to suggest there's subtlety in the wording or that somehow everyone who voted Yes on them isn't a racist.

The goal of the NEP was to build east-west oil corridors (ie, pipelines) and break foreign control of the industry. American interests were what was truly offended by the NEP. The rest is American propaganda.
