An amazing week for biking; perfect weather; calm, cool, rain-free. Been years since I retired, yet I retain an almost child-like joy from the freedom retirement gives me to explore #Indy by bike. Today: up to Whitestown on Big4 passing 2x thru colorful #EagleCreekPark & finishing week w/ PB 206 mi.

Thanks to @bennyfactor.bsky.social , @ne8il.bsky.social and @thedirte.bsky.social for replies that, together, caused me recall the long-forgotten Mattel Hot Wheels track I received for Christmas in 1970. I believe I now understand what Avon had in mind for this trail gap. [note: no AI used! 😂]

I was #biking today in Avon (a Hendrick’s county suburb just west of #Indy). What do you think was going through the collective minds of Avon’s Dept of Public Works and of the contractor paid to construct this multi-use path? See ALT.

My reply to "medicare@subscriptions.medicare.gov". Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback about this one-time $90 payment. My feedback is that I am sending your bribe directly to ActBlue to help defeat this pathetic administration who thinks a bribe will influence my vote in November.

The power of books. This quote post comes three weeks late but, if you would, take a moment and read the entirety of Mike Habeck’s thread. Quite the tribute - and a quite the story of the path not taken.

I was saddened today to learn of the passing of Wendell Berry, the Kentucky writer, poet, farmer, and just about everything else. I never met him but even so he had an outsized influence on my life.

Took advantage of the perfect weather to bike from #Indy out west to North Salem. It was exciting to see all the construction progress on the newest section of the B&O trail. Stopped for a tasty lunch at Perillo’s Pizzeria before returning. 45 miles RT.

I biked to the library to pick up “Country People” by Daniel Mason. I’m very excited to read this, his latest book, which I’d had on hold for 3 months. On my return ride, I picked up a lot of trash from the W 56th St causeway that crosses #Indy’s Eagle Creek reservoir. 9/24/26.

Wonderful cool morning for a bike ride out to the west end of the B&O trailhead. Kudos to the fantastic Brownsburg Parks Dept: today they not only had a small tractor blowing leaves off the trail but they had a three person crew scrubbing a bunch of vile, spray-painted graffiti off the pavement.

Nice evening. Wife and I biked with the Indy Parks Bike Ride Series, starting at Riverside Park, and then ended up over at Guggman Haus for brats and bier while listening to Squirrel Butter.

Once again the protective cement barriers where #Indy’s Eagle Creek Trail crosses the Eagle Creek reservoir along W 56th street causeway have been crashed into and pushed into the trail. Likely happened sometime over the weekend of 9/12/26. Called in as Work Order 26-00133845.

Just a typical day cycling to the YMCA using the cement barrier “protected” bike lane on #Indy’s 56th St causeway over Eagle Creek Reservoir. #bike

I'm so tired, y'all. I also feel like I bear a slight resemblance to Wilford Brimley, but I'm not that old... *googles Brimley's actual age in Cocoon* Well, fuck.

A nuclear microreactor is expected to be deployed at Naval Weapons Station Crane by September 2028. It would be Indiana’s first power-producing nuclear reactor. Read more: www.ipm.org/news/2026-09...

Streets to Home Indy has housed 231 people in just over a year. That's 12 months of rent paid. I've spent some time getting to know a few of those residents. Their lives have changed quickly and dramatically, from years of living outside to suddenly having a home. mirrorindy.org/indianapolis...

Cycled from the Big 4 Trail’s Zionsville Rd trailhead to Colfax and back today scoring my first metric century of the year. Also scored my first, disturbing glimpse of Meta’s data center, metastasizing in the farm fields outside Lebanon. You hear it even before you see it.

A photograph of my bicycle, taken today in a nearly 200 year-old cemetery along Lick Creek in rural Madison County IN. The bike is totally surrounded by a ring of white mushrooms. Google says these are called "false parasol" or "vomiter" mushrooms.

A few weeks ago I wrote about the floating wetlands I saw while visiting Chicago. I was intrigued to learn that Indiana’s very first floating wetland was built in #Indys Eagle Creek Park in ~2018. So yesterday I biked to the park to take a look. The hibiscus were in full bloom. (see ALT) (1/2)

We spent the weekend in Chicago visiting my daughter. She lives an easy walk away from wildmile.org , which is a beautiful floating wetland and boardwalk along the Chicago River at Goose Island. Currently 700ft long, the plan is to expand to a full mile.

(2/2) On my way home from Eagle Creek Park, I did my monthly trash pick-up along the 56th St causeway bike trail. My bag was totally full only halfway across but luckily the trash included another bag, so I was able to use that to finish the full 1/2 mile job. (see ALT)

A cause for celebration? Recently #Indy DPW repaired this formally damaged trail infrastructure. The fence photo is along the Eagle Creek Trail today. Contrast this with my earlier post from (5/14/26). Of course, only a mile further up the trail I found new damage! See ALT. #bike

Why can't we have nice things? I #biked today on #Indy’s Eagle Creek Trail (the new section) that runs between Dandy Trail and Crawfordsville Rd. Lovely new fencing was recently installed. Somehow, someone has already destroyed a fence post. How? No nearby street. Was it a mowing crew? See ALT.

Tonight (7/25) is the NITE Ride in Indianapolis! There is a 6-mile route for beginners, families, and those just looking for a short jaunt. Most of the riders will be doing the full 20-mile distance. This is a wonderful, healthy, & connecting celebration our our city at night with over 1000 riders.

Fantastic day for #cycling in #Indy. Progress continues on both ends of Eagle Creek Trail Phase 2B. Speedway has closed off Main Street for the “Hauler” Parade at 5pm.

npr.orgDOT cranks up its campaign to strip bike lane references from federal websitesTransportation officials have removed a growing list of safety materials that mention bike lanes from federal websites. Safety advocates warn that's undermining proven measures for reducing crashes.

Yesterday I #cycled 28 miles, starting in Speedway, out to the western end of #Indy’s B&O trail. At the Green St crossing, we passed the trail’s new outdoor railroad museum that displays several B&O artifacts. See ALT.

While cycling home from the YMCA this afternoon, I stopped off at Eagle Creek Park’s beach shelter (#Indy) and saw these signs posted at the gate. A good reminder that tomorrow night’s free concert features Tim Grimm and Sergio Webb. Hot weather or not, my wife and I will definitely be there.

Paul Lite@paulite.bsky.social

If you don’t know Tim Grimm and Sergio Webb, give this song, Broken Truth, a listen. 🔥

A status update on the bike trail at 56th and Dandy Trail Rd in #Indy: Recently, the city completed repairs on the fence from a 2024 car crash. Of course, now another car has crashed across the trail and into the repaired fence. Maybe a guard rail is needed to protect trail users here?

Paul Lite@paulite.bsky.social

It’s a miracle! Well - it’s a *partial* miracle. Only 18 months after a driver crashed their car through the fence and after I reported the damage to Mayor’s office, #Indy DPW hustled out this week to make a partial repair of the wooden fencing along 56th street’s section of the Eagle Creek Trail.
