Georg Elser, after the interrogation by the Gestapo in 1939, following his assassination attempt on Hitler, Goebbels, Himmler, Hess, Rosenberg, Streicher & Ley. If it weren't for the fog, Elser would have single-handedly prevented the greatest failure of mankind. (1/10)

Today, Japan celebrates Mountain Day for the tenth time. The kanji character for "eight" (八) looks like a mountain, 11 like two trees, so naturally August 11 became a new public holiday dedicated to: appreciating mountains. I just like that.

Forbidden Stories has long documented attacks on the media and exposed how Israeli forces have sought to evade accountability, through cross-border investigations like the #GazaProject. Today, alongside 130+ global press freedom leaders, we join the urgent call for immediate access to Gaza.

[Fucking kill him (2x) Kill him already kill him] (3x) Just Fucking kill him (2x) Fucking kill him already kill him Fucking kill him (2x) Kill him already kill him Kill him already (2x) "Just" breaks the regular pattern, a disturbance reflected in a later trochee & epizeuxis w/ "fucking kill him".

Two ways to misread satire: 1. Take it literally. 2. Dismiss the earnest within. The tenderness of "where her garments come together, where I used to lay my face" is still as tender. And that second half - when you listen to it today - you just can't help but feel it deep in your guts.

We need to build a European Silicon Valley and actively recruit highly trained scientists and professionals who don't feel at home in the US anymore. Build the reservoir, pump and pipes for their brain drain. So much potential.

22 Feb 1943 - Sophie Scholl's last words: "Such a fine, sunny day and I have to go, but what does my death matter, if through us, thousands of people are awakened and stirred into action?"

Elser was executed in Dachau, on April 9, 1945 - like many other prominent dissidents - as Hitler's regime collapsed. For years, Nazi propaganda and conspiracy theories obscured his legacy. But Georg Elser, acting alone, came closer than anyone to saving millions from war and genocide. (10/10)

Februar 1970 in München.

Americans love to tell each other that, if they had a time-machine, they'd kill baby Hitler. They say that because it's - conveniently - impossible. When their actual present-time government builds an actual concentration camp for immigrants, they can't even be bothered to show up to a protest.

Bit tired of people compiling evidence like they're unravelling some grand mystery. The case is long solved. They never tried to hide it: They're taking away your rights. They're coming for all of them, one by one, till it's over. So put away your calabash pipe and stand in their fucking way.

In early 1939, Elser began gathering materials for his bomb. He stole explosives and detonators from a quarry where he worked and hid them in a false-bottom suitcase. In his parents' orchard, he tested prototypes, refining a timer mechanism to ensure precision. (5/10)
