Some frame accessibility around the fear of lawsuits. One problem is that this approach de-centers people with disabilities. Websites should be designed so people can use them. Designing a website just so it can pass a legal checklist violates the whole premise of accessibility.

Reminds me of conversations this week about Academic Integrity and AI.

The best time to start thinking about and talking about making a website accessible is at the very beginning, before any content or code has been written. But the second best time is right now.

Alt text is not the same as a photo caption. Captions are typically written to support a photo, and usually depend on users being able to see the photo. But alt text is meant to be the stand-in for the photo. The alt text is what a screen reader user gets in place of the photo.

Cognitive load refers to how much working memory or short-term memory someone is using at a time. Minimizing the cognitive load it takes to use your site makes it more accessible for people with cognitive disabilities. Limit what you're asking users to remember to use your site.

If you were going to pay for an AI tool for one year to test out the premium features, which one? I currently have the paid ChatGPT but have the opportunity to try another one....I use AI for my own work with teachers and districts with EdTech and Continuous Improvement. #EduSky
