Glad I missed whatever this discourse was

So, I saw Backrooms! As an alcoholic recovery with mental health/trauma stuff, I did not experience it as especially triggering. It’s not a COMFORTABLE watch, but it’s not supposed to be. It questions how responsible we are for our own recovery/misery, which could feel like victim-blaming. /1

Not every deployment of the can/may distinction is a good deployment of the can/may distinction.

As an editor who has to read a lot of human-composed text, the only thing more annoying to me than people being fooled by obviously AI-composed text is people who insist that obviously human-composed (or at least ambiguous) text is “definitely AI.”

Sean T. Collins@seantcollins.com

I'm still seeing people saying "em dashes are a dead give away of AI" and i would ask people to use their eyes when they read actual writing by humans sometime

This is extremely common in extremist movements of all kinds, and the main reason people eventually leave. It’s not outside haranguing, it’s people simply realizing that their fellow travelers are dumb as shit and often ugly as well.

Astreia@redoubters.bsky.social

I sometimes find Hanania a fascinating character - though no less repulsive - because the fact that he is actually cognizant of just how stupid and without merit his fellow ideologues are and it clearly drives him nuts which like, suffer bitch, you brought it on yourself, but it's still interesting

Are there any content niches as yet unfilled? Seems like literally everything is taken. Guy who eats raw chicken. Lady who defends bestiality. Staring at the sun. Drinking piss as part of a balanced diet. Basically there’s cannibalism and letting babies work at steel mills left?

The corruption of our civic institutions has grown so intense that it's difficult to talk about appropriate remedies while staying within the bounds of propriety.

And there it is, folks. www.nytimes.com/live/2026/05...

David getting unfairly smoked for this post could not be proving his point more totally. Oh wait he said that people on here being ignored was a net *negative*?

David Roberts@volts.wtf

It's hard to avoid the conclusion that Bluesky has been a net negative for US politics. They corralled everyone on the left into a little glass fishbowl where they shout at one another & everyone else ignores them. Meanwhile, all the pols & institutions stayed on X & are being dragged farther right.

Having read thru some of these replies this might be the dumbest Bluesky dogpile ever and that is really saying something. hundreds of people all pretending that the first sentence ended after the words "net negative."

This is even more insane when you realize that he’s made up every one of these deals

Q: "Do you still believe a diplomatic solution is possible with Iran?" Trump: "I think it's very possible. Look, I've had to deal with them four or five times. They change their mind. They're very dishonorable people."

It's notable that Sen. Ossoff is pressing this attack in a tight re-election fight in a purple state. The rest of the party needs to pay attention.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Ossoff: "How does American politics really work? It's coin operated. Money goes in, favors come out. It's been running on secret money, corporate money, billionaire money ... all of this gave rise to a depraved president who exploits this rot to empower and enrich himself"

If Trump causes a nuclear war, his voters’ wild fantasy about being hunted down or thrown in camps might actually become reality so they’re smart to not make it so easy.

A Trump merch store has shuttered its doors, with its owner saying business dried up in the wake of President Donald Trump’s war with Iran.

Okay but like… come on.

Believe women. Believe women. Believe women. Medical misogyny can be deadly, traumatizing & disabling. This woman received a psych diagnosis for saying she believed a man was in her home. A man WAS in her home. Shame on every doctor who won’t believe their patient.

Not trying to wade too deep into the Plattner discourse. I think Dems are allowed to be critical, but no complaints from the right should be taken seriously. The due has a Nazi tat that he covered up. He does not act like a Nazi in any way, or… certainly less so than like 20 current GOP candidates!

Shades of the career criminal who Trump pardoned in his first term and who is now back in jail for doing yet more crimes, right down to the Adelson connection and the blowing a kiss to his mom in court.

Will Bunch@willbunch.bsky.social

Holy (bleep) - this story about a political wired lawyer who successfully lobbied Trump for a pardon for a rich client, then got busted trying to extort and extra $500K from the client and sent a goon (with whom he spoke Russian...um, ok) to his home to collect Check this out

Volvo was pioneering this racket in the aughts! A part that has absolutely nothing to do with any essential function of my 2009 XC70 and cost $50 from the junkyard basically bricked my car, and I had to pay $900 to get a new one “programmed in.”

A victory for Trump, Putin and Netanyahu. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov: “To be honest, I don’t even understand now how anyone can call on others to follow the norms and principles of international law. In fact, it no longer exists.”

Maybe my favorite thing about Las Vegas is that you can see people whose style was frozen in time in every year from 1978-2016 in ONE casino. My least favorite thing is the toddlers awake and walking down the strip with their parents at 1 am.

"L.A.’s trash problem 'is worse than a Third World country. Not even Ecuador looks like this.'" I've lived here for 20 years and literally anywhere else in the world that I've traveled, I've never seen a trash problem 10% as bad as it is in L.A.'s RESIDENTIAL neighborhoods.

I’m not watching the Kristi Noem hearing, but I take it from reports that she would not concede error on her part for labeling Alex Pretti and Renee Good ‘domestic terrorists’

And yet it was the former who claimed with a straight face that his company would make $1 trillion in revenue in 2027. Congrats to Dario for being the less ridiculous person for the week ending 2/27/26 tho

As Anthropic and OpenAI take opposite positions on the responsible uses of AI, keep in mind that Dario Amodei is an actual scientist with a Ph.D. in biophysics from Princeton, where he focused on electrophysiology of neural circuits. Sam Altman is a high school-educated computer software salesman.

The BlueSky stereotypes did NOT like this post

I’ve seen the videos of kids throwing snowballs at NYPD officers in Washington Square Park. Officers, like all city workers, have been out in a historic blizzard, keeping New Yorkers safe and cars moving. Treat them with respect. If anyone’s catching a snowball, it’s me.

For my money, this might be THE defining antisocial behavior of the social media era. Personally, when I get angry about something and then find out that actually, I don’t need to be angry, that is good and I feel… relief?

Shockingly, like 90% of the right appears to be extremely pissed about this as well, and even more shockingly… they are pissed about it for the same exactly reasons!

The Kavanaugh Doctrine.

General Liederkranz@generalliederkranz.bsky.social

which is particularly funny from the inventor of the Kavanaugh Stop. The government can wrong you and it's all "no harm, no foul," right up until it flips to "too much harm, no remedy."

Narrator: the trade deals had not, in fact, been worth “trillions of dollars”

DGM@notredale.bsky.social

Kavanaugh is attempting to manufacture the legal doctrine of pointus de noreturnis: If the regime’s unlawful actions are too difficult to unwind, we apparently have no choice but to see them through.

Yes that’s correct. Also, the disconnect is that one group works for us and also has guns.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com
