Starting to get a bit concerned - got a call from grocery delivery people asking if they could come round 2 hours early to get everyone off the clock by 2pm. Delivery guy apologised for being late (despite being early); he'd had to drive around rather than through town as the police get in position.

There are helicopters overhead and sirens in the distance. Tipped driver and wished him luck (this was midday) and he said he and his van were going home, HQ's orders, also, not to go anywhere near the centre of town. Thanked him profusely. This is going to be bad.

As expected, Montpellier is having a lockdown tomorrow. Weirdly, the curfew is for 'unaccompanied minors'. While students have been protesting, the major damage done last Saturday was *not them*, but the GJs + assorted dickheads who set fire to a bunch of cars and vandalised dozens of shops...

Oh, and don't worry about me, bless you all. I live in the 'bad' part of town, so the shops will be open (and protected) and we never see the cops here.

...so, the football match has been moved, 'unauthorised gatherings' are forbidden, and there will be no trams. Please God let this not continue like before covid. More people will lose their businesses, as they did before. More people who are struggling with the same issues the protests are about.

Right. I'm on a nightbus home. So the law is i have to tell y'all a story. So let me tell you about the time i ended up drinking with Ray Harryhausen's right-hand animator. Who we were incorrectly convinced was full of so much shit

My cat has become a hobbit. She is waking me up increasingly earlier (and more violently) for breakfast, and then I go back to bed. But when I get up, she wants another breakfast. And is currently demanding lunch (a new thing), before dinner later. And then I give her a snack before I go to bed...

...so we've gone from two meals a day (breakfast and dinner) to four - breakfast 1, breakfast 2, dinner, bedtime snack - and now she's 'negotiating' for lunch as well. I mean, she *is* French, but this is getting ridiculous. She also just butted in to my RDV with my psychiatrist.

Learn maths and grow the fuck up, seriously.

I don't think $30k is a life-changing amount of money. Median American born in 1980 will have $2m in income in their lifetime. It's a 1% increase in earnings.

When I was at boarding school we played 'Femme Fatale' at an assmebly for our housemistress who was about to get married. Not the best idea.

I had a very weird dream last night. A bit in, I worked out that I could 'narrate' to myself what was happening, and work out what the events were metaphors for IRL *as they happened*. I could also make choices, at least about my own actions. It was like playing a really surreal computer game. What?

This has never happened before. Usually, I can work out the metaphors after I wake up, but not *during* the dream. Is this 'lucid dreaming'? If so, why has it just happened now? Huh.

Also, I don't play computer games - at least, not those kind of games, just word puzzles and so on - so it wasn't like I was dreaming something I'd just been doing.

They can't name him to avoid naming his wife. Madame Pelicot waived her right to anonymity. She made a choice. Nobody else needs to make the same choice.

More evidence that AI should be nowhere near art. So many people think this is an ABBA song. Because HUMANS wrote it. Humans who understood music. Who could tell how ABBA used harmonies, chords, ran into choruses, and worked with that. They didn't just cram it into an algorythm. dai.ly/x7uhqbe

I am in awe. I never start at the beginning, just halfway through, and then tidy up after. Getting languages mixed up only helps matters, heh.

Every teacher at school always said to do an essay plan before you write a word. I write essays for a living and I never ever do that. Writing the introduction unlocks the whole article in my head.

Always say 'people'. When you use words like poverty, disability, homosexuality, immigration, homelessness, you are always talking about people. So say that.

They need to start calling them people and not migrants, because too many people think migrants aren’t human.

I HAVE AN OVEN! The manual is in English (great for me, but a bit weird), has multiple diagram-labelling errors, and no mention of how to set the temperature of the damn thing, but I have managed to work it out and written guidance on a post-it note. It's lunchtime and I'm already exhausted.

Isn't one reason the US condemn 'Islamism' is because Iran, Afghanistan and IS-controlled areas publically execute people? Stone women to death for being raped, chuck gay men off buildings... Asking for a couple of million friends. Rot in hell, Hegseth.

So, where are these 3,000 substitute teachers going to be found over the weekend? And if they're so easily available, why weren't they in place before now? And "several hundred" *new* teachers to be recruited? Will they be fully qualified? Because that take ages. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/o...

I don't think people internationally measure quite how violent the French police is in its interventions against kids. It gives you a good sense of what to expect if the fash win the elections next year.

Civil defence siren just went off. Now, I *know* it's the scheduled test time (12.15* on first Wednesday of the month) but what with the rain and the riots, I am still feeling a bit uneasy. *used to be midday but the churches complained.
