OK, this is worth suspending my 'no politics' rule for. A blistering history lesson, clearly delivered. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

“You can tell the economic character of a nation by the way its infrastructure works.” Powerful words from George Monbiot on BBC Question Time explaining how Wales’s economy was built to extract wealth rather than enrich its own people, and why we need the powers to put that right. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 #Annibyniaeth

The pitch here seems to be, ‘we’ll build the houses and infrastructure we failed to build during the 14 years we were in government, but we’ll do it in the most damaging and lowest quality way possible’. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Just when you thought it was all over... An email arrives from British Gas to say that they've completed the work on my smart meter. I sold the house almost 2 years ago. Words fail me.

Two more calls... And apparently the cheque is in the post! Resolved in under a year. I'll take that.👍

Halfway through a lovely week in our favourite place, it's dawned on us that this is the first proper holiday (longer than a weekend break) we've had on our own, no kids or other family, in 34 years! It feels a bit weird, in a good way.

Absolutely. Maxwell was the genius who took Faraday's groundbreaking discoveries about electromagnetism and gave them solid maths to back them up. Amongst loads of other stuff, obvs. Can't believe he's not better known, even in his own country.

In case you were in any doubt physics' holy trinity is Einstein, Newton, and Maxwell. A Great Man trope, yes, but also a way to convey Maxwell's real status.

"revival" means bringing something back to life, not recreating it in a new format. The premise is the same as it always was. Absurd and unbelievable, but undeniably brilliant. Just do that.

There are currently no active conversations for a full ‘MUPPET SHOW’ series revival. Disney, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures have had difficulties with deciding on a premise for the series that they can all agree on. (Source: Deadline)

I’m a fifty something year old guy who can be brought to tears at the most basic things the Muppets do and I know I’m not the only one. Muppets = joy and there should be WAY more productions than there already are. GET ON IT.

Every time I've looked out the North Sea in the last few weeks (whether I'm running or with my family or teaching my daughter to skim stones or holding my son's hands as he jumps the breakers) I've thought about how at least 152 people have died in that sea trying to migrate to the UK since 2018.

New immigration stats show that the numbers of asylum seekers in hotels is down to 16k - falling 50% in a year. Small boat crossings down 23% in the year to June. Numbers waiting for initial decision down from almost 180k to 40k.

I reckon for most people, confidence in the forecast is based on reliable accuracy, not how it's done.

Met Office research in to public attitudes towards AI-generated forecasts is helping shape how future forecast improvements are introduced. We're exploring how AI can work alongside physics-based modelling and meteorologist expertise to improve forecasts while maintaining confidence in them.

Somehow I had missed this. Reposting in case you did too. Incredible stuff 😎
