Saw this on FB and it is true, my buddy has had 2 fires when he put his stove too close to a wall,he had 1 inch flagstone over drywall and a 6 inch gap,we could smell smoke in the wall and put it out,he built the house next door and had 4inch stone all the way up the wall ,drywall and studs behind

He moved and the new neighbours said the patio door was getting tight just a few feet from the stove, I peeled the siding back and 4 feet of studs were charcoal including the corner, stone is not a heat barrier and you need a specific material for close gaps, same guy has a 5 bed mansion

4 inch stone from basement to upstairs cathedral, studs and cedar siding, stove is 6 inches away from the stone, I imagine the studs behind it are gone by now, buddy is a multi millionaire but can't afford a heat shield, if you have learned by experience and still don't correct it I can't help you
