I got so emotional today when I realised I’d come down two sizes. Shopping for clothes used to make me genuinely depressed, so standing there and realising I could fit into a smaller size felt like a tiny, deeply personal victory.

Always a trifle bothered by how movies portray people opening the front door immediately after the bell rings. Who are these fully dressed psychopaths lying in wait to lunge? Takes me at least five minutes of frantic scrambling for a modicum of couth and cloth just to avoid outraging public decency.

One thing I've stopped tolerating is disrespect. I don't care if you're family, a friend or a stranger. I'm no longer going to stay quiet just to keep someone else comfortable. If protecting your feelings requires me to abandon my self-respect, that's a trade I'm no longer willing to make.

My cats have never been cuddly. They love me, but mostly from a respectful distance. The only time they tolerate snuggles is during winter, when I'm essentially a heated blanket. My mum's cat is staying with me now & she curls up beside me, asks to be held & melts into every hug. I needed this.

I spent days convinced my husband would come home to a botanical and aquatic crime scene. He walked in, took one look, and said, "I expected worse." I'm relieved... but also deeply curious about what level of destruction he thought I was capable of.

My husband comes home tonight. In his absence, I've managed to kill several plants and one assassin snail. I'm not sure if I should greet him at the door or just hand him a list of the casualties.
