I love the “not everyone can afford headphones” line. As if it’s obligatory to play shitty TikTok’s on public transport and you can’t possibly be expected to go 10 minutes without assaulting your eyeballs with mindless crap

Once you’ve had the £10+ Ginger Pig sausage roll, alas, you cannot pretend that the one that’s been in a “heater” all day at Sainsbury’s compares

Marie Le Conte@youngvulgarian.marieleconte.com

my horrid little opinion is that I believe this to be most true when it comes to British pastry items, obviously a warm, huge, preposterously expensive sausage roll from a wanky pub made out of poncy pork is a million times better than a Greggs one, don't lie to me, be serious

The "zionism is racism" motion that has just passed on the Green Party's conference floor is truly gross, and deeply racist. The party's MPs deserve some credit for opposing it, though they should've done so more stridently and sooner. This is now a millstone around the party's necks. Deservedly.

The public finances are stretched to the limit, even with real-terms spending cuts coming up for most departments just before the election. At the same time taxes on median earners are *low* because we've spent 20+ years only raising indirect taxes. We are just not remotely serious people.

I'd say "contactless payments come to America" has the potential to be about three days of transatlantic bluesky content, possibly taking in US aversion to automatic speed cameras and something about food consumption.

Less rolling your eyes at black strangers on the internet, more asking Mum and Dad at the dinner table why they’re reading racist newspapers and voting for racists.

worth saying this isn't just a British press problem, for some reason Arday was also written about extensively in mainstream national publications in the US and in France, among others, we really do have an entirely fucked up global media ecosystem

Literally everyone I know or read who expressed an opinion about Starmer has been saying this since 2024 and I really don't understand why it didn't sink in. It's not a complex point

“Don’t piss off every section of the coalition that elected you” is advice that most political scientists would give you for free

You may disagree, or rightly point out that consequences matter far more than motives, but my take is that the driver of the most morally repugnant decisions Starmer took was cowardice rather than malice. Maybe that's actually worse. The damage weak men can do.

Just so thankful for ITV being there in-person so that we get *checks notes* the sound of traffic and some Brazilian fans having a walk.

PSA: If you’re a politics poster doing politics posting about the World Cup without much knowledge of soccer (not that anybody on Bluesky would do such a thing I’m sure) you’re probably gonna want to do a cursory google of Thomas Partey before you limber up the posting fingers.

Gonna be an adventure seeing the Thomas Partey takes come rolling out. Real range finder of an issue.

Condemning riots isn't enough. We need policy action, including an immediate appraisal of X as a vehicle for coordinating far-right disorder. And we need political leadership, to challenge white nationalism as an idea, not to validate it daily and then complain when it turns violent.

“Mid-season shopping spree” say the announcers to describe City, as they do every year lately, spending more than the summer transfer budget of 2/3rds of the PL clubs in JANUARY. Said uncritically. Nothing about how odd it is that no other club can do it. Or the 115 charges.
