"So the guy called himself a king" *muffled gasps from the panel* "and he sent thousands of soldiers to quarter in my city" *Washington audibly whispers "what the f-"* "and so we, like, formed this system where we'd call up people within a minute or two if they showed up" Paul Revere: hell yes

Even if this were viable as a concept (that there's an afterlife; that it allows conversations with others; that enslavers are going the same place as you), who cares? Oh, are you mad at me, Ben Franklin? Tough shit.

Thinking about making a game for my boy about, essentially, Jews who pull up roots in the early medieval era and become travelers, caravaning out into the Lands of Folklore, beyond History. There's not a lot of Jewish video games out there.

I don't just mean "has a rabbi" or "fought Nazis", but really is grounded in Judaic principles. Although you could get me to do a FPS as a Partisan.

Tinkering with ai at home, I got it to make a credibly decent art asset set for a game idea I had bouncing around for the past 15 years. It does not look like "ai art". Same algos went into an oil paint mixing sim I got the AI to make. I also got the AI to make a sound track.

In code, I don't see a future for humans typing in ~5 years. My job will be totally different. Things like hallucinations in a certain respect are solved problems, fwiw. It takes some effort, a step away from stochastic models, and thinking through the situation, but AI can be human level +/-.

I'm not sure what else happens. I think this is the defining issue of the next presidential election. It's a nukes thing. We don't get to go back in time. Everything gets adjusted and adapted. Maybe we mostly ignore it (VR), but it's real and useful. So. Whee.

The soundtrack is cool jazz, dynamic to weather, mood, etc. Instruments are simulated. It works well enough for a small project. I next went "huh", and got Claude to have a Singer Songwriter bot. Well, some of its lines are bangers, But it's just a robot

A fully simulated voice is /odd/. Very alien. I'm probably going to plop the sound rendering bit online for fun. I don't like the ai lyrics. Something sets wrong with me there.

Full Retatrutide phase 3 obesity data published today. It's gonna take a minute to fill dissect this. The appendix alone has 70 pages of data. Long story short we created a drug that's almost too good. Huge chunks of people stopped or reduced doses from excess weight reductions.

DRAGON LAKE (1988) Acrylic on Watercolor Board - 30” x 20” “Some come easy, some come hard,” said Norman Rockwell, when someone asked him how long it took for him to complete a painting. Like him, I’m somewhat of a perfectionist. 1/6 #bookssky #art #fantasy #dragon

Interesting professional work lately: Rust. Summarizing the ChatGPT public version of my department's stack and load. > The API uses a Rust backend, exposes a JSON-based interface, and is designed for high-volume data. Publicly reported traffic was about 900 million monthly.

The robot got it from old official news. Can't say anything about today. It's a fun #rust project. Right now there's this other System and I'm asking Claude: can we migrate 50KLoC to Rust? (Answer: yes. Also, avoid endpoints that return multiple types)

Yes to making Spokane modern!

We could really turn Division (and the nearby blocks) into a vibrant area. This is why, even from an economic development lens — not to mention the health, environmental, and individual economic mobility benefits we get from them — public investment into buses is awesome. Vote YES on Prop 1.

if you want to see normally sclerotic do-nothing local governments suddenly snap into action, do some quietly beneficial tactical urbanism type thing like this and watch how quickly they race to remove it

German. I loved it so much I went most of the way to a minor. To this day I donate to whatever is left of the German department at the U of Idaho.

What was your favorite early clas NOT in your eventual major. Mine was Ethnomusicology: an introduction to folk music.

@losing.games a very silly question. Your purveyors of Mausritter seem to be out of stock for the boxed set. I am interested in getting my hands on the print core rulebooks, adventures, etc... do you have particular advice for me?

I can maunder around the house, fiddle and faddle, and the dog dozes mightily. ONE MOMENT IN THE KITCHEN. ONE SOUND. and I have a dog snout coming my way with precision and focus.

As it stands the system isn't fully baked. Still working out some stuff. Aiming to let the large language models do language, the actual logic pushed to a logic kernel. Let me know what you think!

Get your vaccinations, and your kids vaccinations, and your grandkids vaccinations. and other extended family and friends should be vaxxed

I keep wondering about the market for journalism and how interested citizens could put together a profitable news agency.

This is absolutely brutal. Just SIXTY journalists make up Oregon's largest newspaper chain.

Starting a new project in 2026: trying to drink a coffee in as many Seattle neighborhoods as I possibly can. Seattle's coffee scene is truly one of my favorite things about this city and this will be a great excuse to fully explore it.

This was one of the bosses' explicit goals in getting Trump elected - crush the strong Biden era labor market in order to discipline workers and make them submit to abuse and exploitation. That, not burrito taxi prices, was the actual economic stakes of the 2024 election

Maybe we should have gone out trying to find owls to photograph. The game isn't moving fast, the ads are mostly insane, and I haven't been outside enough.

Shalom friends! Enjoy this blog I wrote for Reboot, a case study in adapting tales from a deeply patriarchal tradition, shaped by male storytellers, into modern feminist Midrash…while STILL having each plot twist and character trait rooted in those same ancient texts! rebooting.com/article/jewi...

Today I started the serious grind to learn Lean. I have a rough hypothesis of one approach to future programming. It involves a formal method system being set up to specify the system, then AI is used to generate the code, then the prover ensures the qualities are held. 1/

A core issue with proven code has been the sheer /work/ it's taken to prove it to date. Well, cost of codegen is crashing. We still need to have rock solid programs. Where does that leave us? Well... Let's prove it works. 2/

So I booted up lean and instructed the latest Claude to act entirely as a TA and critique & instruct. Well, it's been a long time since I wrote proofs, and this is a hard go. But I have a robot instructor which has time to spare. I now have some theorems about concat. Whee. finé/

A Seattle transit goal set in 2015 was for 72% of the city to be a 10 min walk to 10 min frequency transit. We hit that goal in early 2020 and since 2023, have not reported on it. Today, just 53% of the city is walking distance to frequent transit and with new openings it'll be 55% in 2027

Nick@nicksattele.bsky.social

Transit service should increase next year (but not back to 2019 levels) by depleting the Transit Measure's reserve fund. Funding that could go to bus service will also finance Sound Transit's inability to permit themselves and operations for the Streetcar, which is no longer funded by Sound Transit
