For the record, that's 39 Democrats who abstained from condemning the raid. 18% of the Democrats in the house are either happy with what happened or are too frightened to oppose it. Still waiting for Chuck Schumer to fart about it. www.commondreams.org/news/trump-i...

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

In fact I will say the Earnest and Pious Charismatic Ethnic Minority political figure (AOC, Mamdani, El-Sayed) has been a pretty good bet for the American left so far, whereas the Disaffected Gruff White Guy Showcasing True Masculinity (Fetterman, Platner) has been a worse bet. Just an observation.
Yeah start insinuating he has morning chai rather than coffee, say that he knocks things for 6 rather than hits a home run, allege that he is generally a clean living good boy who loves his mother and prays every Friday (pejorative).

Look, I know all the reasons we got here, but we really need to start seriously thinking about what we do in a world where The Markets punish whole countries for voting for decency, compassion, and fairness. We must stop pretending the capitalist machine is an objective, value neutral force.
It's very, very telling, I think, that the markets are so concerned about the pro-democracy incumbent winning

Anyone remember the panic over Lesbians in the Locker Rooms? I do.
In 2005, Time Magazine did a cover story on “The Battle Over Gay Teens.” It’s the same handwringing we see now from “concerned” adults on behalf of young people. “Kids are disclosing their homosexuality with unprecedented regularity–and they are doing so much younger.” time.com/archive/6596...

The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.

The NYT story does not even include the word rape. Not once.
Cheesecake Factory deserves all the love.
When I say I love Cheesecake Factory, I mean this cat who was found malnourished and wandering through a Bay Area mall parking lot. Cheesecake Factory has since been rescued and nursed back to health. He's now healthy, vaxxed, & sweet, but still needs a loving home www.petfinder.com/cat/cheeseca...

For the fabulously wealthy, paying taxes is pretty much optional. They can borrow against their vast wealth, which is mostly an untaxed capital gain, without paying taxes. When they die, the capital gain goes to zero. And loopholes exist to bypass the estate tax too.
“Billionaires who popularized stock-based lending include Larry Ellison and Elon Musk. Both borrow to avoid having to sell shares—which could trigger a taxes and dilute their voting rights—in companies they founded.” www.wsj.com/finance/the-...
Yes: it's called learning to enjoy having fellow human beings around you. It's called living together in harmony. The word civilization is literally rooted in the Latin for "city."
GOP candidate Brandon Herrera: “Cities are liberal by default. I think something the way that living in such a close, dense environment does to your fucking brain.”

Does the phrase "offensively cheap" refer to the fact that it's mind-bogglingly less expensive to install than any other form of power, and it doesn't require a constant flow of commodity fuel, so it offends capitalists?
Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth. Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why. www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...

The right can't seem to see the distance between "I just see trans people as people" and "I will force everyone to become trans whether they want to or not, so help me God"
I don’t think we should get used to a man this wealthy, this full of hate and this willing to demonize a small minority having so much power in our economy and in our politics. To defend democracy, we must defeat the oligarchs.

A couple of things jump out at me about this: 1. Since when is daily life called "a workflow?" That's just kinda gross. 2. Almost all of the problems people are using AI to "manage their lives" exist because we lack a bureaucratic tradition of helping people. "You're on your own" is so American.
Hot on the heels of Microsoft's mind-bogglingly racist Copilot commercial about using AI in the office, the investment firm Apollo Global Management issues shareholder guidance that "outside of programming, there is no sign AI spend has any return on investment." www.apollo.com/wealth/insig...
These requests are really weird. "Lord, it's clear You don't know what's going on down here. Do these things, I know they're what You would want to do if You really understood the problem." Tony's claiming to be more omniscient than the God he claims to follow.
Family Research Council president Tony Perkins prays over Sen. Roger Marshall, asking God to dispatch "the Holy Spirit to go before him and give him favor with the citizens of Kansas."
I'm hardly surprised. I've watched a few of the Chinese AI-generated shorts. They're soulless and uninteresting "action" pieces. They have a tendency to veer into non-sequitur. I can't really see the audience getting into them.
China’s first AI-generated theatrical feature has flopped, earning just $181,000 in its first weekend. By contrast, the scrappy ‘Niu Lai’ turned its crude animation into a viral attraction, grossing nearly $10 million a couple of months ago. www.cartoonbrew.com/box-office-r...
