Hey @mark-carney.bsky.social #cdnpoli
Today's water-cooler fun facts: August 27th saw the 21st consecutive daily record global temperature, more than 1.80°C above the pre-industrial baseline, more than 4.35 standard deviations above the 1991-2020 daily mean, and more than 0.25°C above the previous daily record.
IMO, BILD decision to jump from Wynne's OLP to Ford's PC party had less to do with dissatisfaction with the OLP's greenbelt, than it did with the anticipation of having a Premier who is far more amenable to "solving" member's issues the old fashioned way. That, and box seats and strippers.

Renewables, especially solar and energy storage are cheaper, and faster to roll out. They produce 100% less GHGs than natural gas and less waste heat. They trump all other generation option on science and economic metrics. Sound civic policy with none of the corporate capture of govt influence.

I'd like to ask Canada's @mark-carney.bsky.social how he can live with gutted energy emissions regulations to allow a massive influx of gas fired generation, especially for data centers we do not need. Canada already contributed this this👇

Paris has a history of grand transformations.
“Paris has embarked on a grand transformation, planting 155k trees, adding hundreds of kms of bike lanes, pedestrianising 300 school streets and banning cars from the banks of the Seine. Parking has been turned into green space…Fewer parents fear their child being run over when they walk to school.”

My apologies, I was less than crystal clear. By dropped, I meant that the Alberta Electric System Operator officially UNLEASHED its Guide to AESO Connection Requirements for Transmission-Connected Data Centers on the public during a highly charged town hall in Redwater, AB.
Scott Moe is a traitor to our future. He will fight tooth & nail against export taxes on Saskatchewan's potash, canola, wheat, & pulses. He expects the rest of the country to bleed to meet climate goals, while his province gets a free pass. Saskatchewan profits. Everyday Canadians bear the brunt.

More importantly, solar doesn't spew localized heat, toxic air pollution, or deafening noise into existing residential communities the way emergency mobile gas peaker plants do. Carney’s obsession with fossil fuel baseloads isn't a sound transition. It's a product of corporate capture #cdnpoli

Let's look at the lie. Utility scale solar & storage are vastly faster to manufacture, install, and commission than building a new natural gas peaker plants. When a community needs rapid grid capacity, solar can be deployed in a fraction of the time it takes to clear gas pipe regulatory hurdles.

And again, myself and everyone else pointing these things out aren't assuming anything, we are reading his policy platform. People aren't "assuming" anything based on the US, we are watching Canadian politicians execute the exact same fossil-fuel playbook in real-time. #cdnpoli

And Mark Carney signed off on all of this. The federal MOU explicitly exempted Alberta’s clean electricity timelines and removed the oil/gas emissions cap under the justification of powering tech infrastructure. All under the corporate lie that fossil fuels are a necessary "bridge fuel."

National averages are a completely useless metric when regional grids are actively being corrupted. Worse, Mark Carney's own spring platform explicitly plans to INCREASE Canada’s natural gas proportion. He is actively pushing to amp up baseload gas generation #cdnpoli

Also, hiding behind a "10% national average" is lazy political accounting. Canada’s grid looks clean only because Quebec and BC have massive legacy hydro. Alberta currently relies on natural gas for over 60% of its power. The UCP just rigged the rules to assure that percentage grows exponentially.

You're not watching current affairs in Alberta, so let me explain why I didn't assume anything. Days ago, the Alberta Electric System Operator dropped its electrical generation requirements for new AI data centers. The punchline? Only gas fired facilities can meet the prov capacity rules.

Fact: there is no mythical network of side streets that can replace the protected bike lanes on Bloor, Yonge, and University. (And if you insist otherwise, please show them to us on a map, thank you.)

Is politics for profit or the people? “The public won’t forgive us [Labour] if we miss this chance” - even those within Labour can see it's shocking that Burnham is rowing back on another key promise. Democracy should not be for sale www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
Now this is something I can heartily endorse.
No more oil & gas licences Just transfer massive fossil fuel subsidies to solar & wind, batteries & grid upgrade "GREAT CLIMATE NEWS 📈 Renewables keep powering ahead. They now power *a third* of the world's electricity supply. And that number is only going up & up & up." via Dr. Jeevun Sandher MP
