If you can substitute "hungry ghost trapped in a jar" for "AI" in a sentence it's probably a valid use case for LLMs. Take "I have a bunch of hungry ghosts in jars, they mainly write SQL queries for me". Sure. Reasonable use case. "My girlfriend is a hungry ghost I trapped in a jar"? No. Deranged.

One of the strangest things that ever happened to me was to be be present when a close friend was accidentally called by Uri Geller. Evidently he misdialled a number and got my mate Jon. What bends my head is how it feels like it should be important but was actually utterly meaningless. Appropriate.

(Easy Listening Jazz pauses)'I'm sorry we are experiencing a high volume of calls* ... our team** are working hard to support you' (Easy Listening Jazz recommences) * several ** Marcus the intern

Morning: Listening to an incredible @bodegapop.bsky.social WFMU thing called 'Bad Russians' (i.e oppressed by the USSR) and there's a tune called 'Dangerous Game' by 'Arsenal' which could easily be late Mike Gibbs Orchestra - just amazing. Also literally impossible to Google because of UK football.

*checks Very Sensible talking points, clears throat* when students riot for better school conditions it’s thuggery but when white supremacists riot for a racially pure England it’s legitimate concerns,

Beginning to understand that the trick in writing funding applications in the UK (arts council) is in part understanding the difference between ArtSpeak and OrgSpeak.

Going to have to keep posting this quote from the other founder of UKiP, Alan Sked for obvious reasons...

Because vibecoded vst plugins are flooding the market with slop these days I have been collecting a list of audio developers that explicitly state on their website that their code is not generated by AI. I think it's time to share the ones I have so far in a little thread i'll keep expanding:

Thomas Cooper Gotch painted many pictures of children holding lanterns through the 1920s and was often concerned with themes of childhood and adolescence. This evening parade seems not quite of this world; the faceless girls in white dresses leading seem somehow symbolic.

For the first time, the British government has acknowledged that Russia interfered in the 2016 Brexit referendum. So who did BBC Newsnight invite on to discuss what happened? Sergei Markov, Putin’s former spokesman. Par for the course, says Nerve co-founder @carolecadwalla.bsky.social 1/

I get this a lot, but perhaps with less emotional intensity. For me it's a lot like knowing there are so many places I will never visit.

This post is unavailable.

I always found it incredible that Starmer never pulled the 'Reform are Russian Actors' lever. You can debate the level of interference, but there's a whiff of pure truth about it, only driven home by the post Yandex immolation bot stats. This will only get worse for them I hope.

We need to be clear. This isn’t about shooting small boats. It’s about shooting people. Probably shooting small children.

Pretty hard to misconstrue "If they need to use lethal force, then they’ll be able to do so" as anything but a policy allowing the use of lethal force. People in small boats aren't firing at anybody, Farage knows this. This is all Reform nonsense. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Having grown up in Wales, I can testify that if you are actually worried about your culture and history being under threat, the thing to do is write poetry and songs, perform plays, tell stories and organise festivals, not just sit around whining.

Laughter is linguistic: in conversation it helps manage turn-taking, marks awkward pauses, eases social tension. it has rhythm, pitch, and tone that communicate emotional meaning and different writing systems translate the sound of laughter into unique text conventions ( hahaha etc)…

listening on R4 to Scottish kids asking questions directly via radio to a scientist on the ISS as it flies over and it's genuinely moving.

The human race's tenuous future rests upon the neurological trait inherent in the species whereby fast and unexpected death = bad but slow and boring death = who cares

Something strange. It's relatively unusual to find a video on youtube of Georges Perec actually speaking himself. Everything has been dubbed over. The best place to find anything substantial is the ever fecund UBU.
