Hey all - we regret to say Pratchat isn’t back to normal this month. Work pressures and illness have prevented us from making a new episode, or getting our last recorded one out the door. But we are hoping to regroup and come back with a plan soon. Thanks for your patience.

Do you need something to listen to in the background? Do you have that last commute of the day? Or do you just want to listen to people chatting about Discworld. Well, then we have something for you.

Some solid picks here from Ed Power, but it’s telling that if you asked ten other #TerryPratchett fans (including me) you’d likely get ten quite different lists. There’s much more agreement about the bottom ten, I reckon! And this isn’t even including his non-Discworld work.

I think one of the upsetting things about the AI art discourse is that it has revealed (all over again) how many people in the world are genuinely angry and resentful that some artists get paid for a living.

The morning air smelled of lilac. 'I recall a battle once,' said Dickins, looking up at a tree. In history, it was. And there was this company, see, and they was a ragtag of different squads and all covered in mud in any case, and they found themselves hiding in a field of carrots.’ [1/3]

‘So as a badge they all pulled up carrots and stuck them on their helmets, so's they'd know who their friends were and incidentally have a nourishing snack for later, which is never to be sneezed at on a battlefield.' [2/3]

'Well! So what?' said Dibbler. 'So what's wrong with a lilac flower?' said Dickins, reaching up and pulling down a laden branch. 'Makes a spanking plume, even if you can't eat it..?’ And now, Vimes thought, it ends. - Terry Pratchett, Night Watch (2002) [3/3]

We now have a recording date set for our next episode, discussing the Folklore of Discworld! Send in your questions about the book, or about folklore and the Disc in general, over the next week. #Pratchat93

Thank you and a huge congratulations to all at @ausdwcon.org for another great convention! Our live episode recorded yesterday will be out later this month. And we’ll see you all at the next one in 2028 in Melbourne!

Life has found a way…to disrupt production of our next episode. We must regretfully push it to April. But we won’t leave you empty-eared! For International Women’s Day, we’d love to share your recommendations of female authors for Pratchett fans! Diana Wynn Jones, Ursula Le Guin…who else?

I talk about one of the games that made me love games: Discworld II. 🧙 ALSO: Justice for Granny Weatherwax!

It’s nearly time to record our next episode, #Pratchat92, about the 1996 videogame, Discworld II: Missing, Presumed…!? Can Rincewind solve the mystery of why people aren’t dying properly? Get your questions in ASAP about the second #Discworld graphic adventure!

Our next episode, #Pratchat91, will discuss The #Discworld Companion! What favourite entries would you like us to discuss? What questions did it answer - and what (or who) was missing? Get your questions and suggestions in ASAP - reply here, use the hashtag, or send us an email!

Our new special episode about the Hogfather TV show references a couple of other podcasts that recently talked about David Jason: Comfort Blanket (hosted by @gralefrit.bsky.social), specifically the Count Duckula episode. @xplainthexmen.bsky.social, specifically episode 507 which has Hogfather info.

It's the shortest day of the year (where we are), so what better time to discuss the Hogfather TV adaptation. Angels & creatures are omitted, a pixie is briefly added, everyone's doing good work. We brush past how the longest night works on the Disc. Happy Hogswatch! www.podbean.com/ew/pb-vst6y-...

17 years ago THIS VERY DAY, @ifdestroyed.bsky.social & I released the first episode of House to Astonish, a podcast of comic book news & reviews with a bit of mucking about at the end. To mark the occasion, I thought you might want to hear that first mildly wonky episode! archive.org/details/Hous...

In case you missed it yesterday: #Pratchat89 is out now! Join Liz, Ben and @pcgamer.com’s Jody Macgregor as we discuss the very reasonable and logical 1995 graphic adventure game #Discworld. Find us wherever you get your podcasts to hear all about this tale of donkeys, octopuses and custard…

Our next episode, #Pratchat89, is recording this weekend - and we’re discussing the #Discworld point and click adventure game from 1995! Ben may have lost the box and the disc but he still has his original manual… If you have questions, get them in ASAP!

Join us (finally) for a new episode as @brendanbarnett.bsky.social chats with Ben* about how one man can draw so many wizards, witches, dragons, guards, goblins and other denizen of the Disc, as we read Paul Kidby’s Designing Terry Pratchett’s #Discworld! #Pratchat88 * Liz will be back next month!

pratchatpodcast.com#Pratchat88 – They’re All Good Dragons, BrontIllustrator, game designer and educator Brendan Barnett joins Ben to discuss art, ideas, inspiration, creative process, dragons, wizards and goblins (oh my!) as we leaf through Paul Kidby’s 2…

A quick numbering note: the new episode about Designing Discworld is #Pratchat88, not #Pratchat89 as erroneously reported by us. #Pratchat89 will discuss the Discworld graphic adventure game, and #Pratchat90 will discuss Raising Steam. Ben promises to double-check his spreadsheet in future!

Listeners, we have recorded #Pratchat89, discussing Paul Kidby’s book Designing Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, and it is coming out this month! But after several setbacks and problems, it will not come out today. We’re hoping it will be later this week. Thanks for bearing with us.
