Discovered this amazing mural while running work errands today. For a moment there I actually thought the figure on the ground was a live person touching up the mural. It’s that good (or my glasses are that bad 😂).

It's wild to me how many people do not understand this. "Luxury housing" is not some ontologically separate category from the rest of the housing market. Nor is "affordable housing." It's all one big fluid market & when you build more, everyone moves up & frees up the bottom end.

The idea that the wealthy, the middle class, and the poor are all in completely separate housing markets with no overlap ignores how things work in the real world. In the absence of new high end housing, wealthy people outbid the middle class for the best available existing housing and renovate it.

All this over closing a lakeside street in a park so people can safely walk/run and bike over the weekend.

The folks who successfully kept Lake Washington Boulevard more dangerous during the Harrell Administration are calling Katie Wilson's visit to Bicycle Weekends this Saturday a "gloating celebration", spreading lies about access to the shoreline & suggesting people harass city staff on Friday night.

I've long been skeptical of over-development in the Southwestern US. This book by Kyle Paoletta (avail at SPL) paints some new perspectives and has some great history, but it still comes back to better water conservation and more urbanism (i.e. less unchecked suburban sprawl).

Our PhD student Kennedy Orwa, who studies applications of AI to health care, was hastily deported today to Kenya along with his 13-year-old son without opportunity to speak to legal counsel. King 5 reports that he held a valid visa that was rescinded without explanation.

As a former professional male endurance athlete with two children, I really want to see how this translates into humans.

Egg-cellent news! The first California condor eggs of the season have been laid at our wildlife conservation center, and more could be on the way.

“There are people who own their home for a very long time. It’s been a great investment. There are other people who think they will need to leave Seattle because they can’t afford a place to live.” The final legislation...is an attempt to “recognize that both those types of opinions are valid.” 🫤

ALL-TIME RECORD CREST! The Cedar River is so high it’s hitting bridges in downtown Renton. Scary and incredible to see. Thanks to my friend in town for sharing this video. #wawx

This is absolute lunacy.

The US government support of cancer research via NCI has been severely cut. And of June 2025, "There were 181 individual terminated NCI funded grants, with a total award amount of $640,867, 956." jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

Im still fascinated by this all these years later. I can't believe we haven't learned more. And the window of ever knowing gets smaller every year.
