Copper wire stripping of streetlighting is a public safety problem. It creates safety hazards for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers, especially during this time of year. A crackdown is long overdue. The people doing this and the businesses buying stolen wire should be punished.

West Seattle Bike Blob@westseattlebikeblg.bsky.social

We love you Alexis, appreciate that you share in such lived experiences like this. There's an incredible issue with streetlights being out in Seattle tho, I would guess the entire stretch of Delridge Way between White Center and Holden is in the dark, not to mention the W Seattle bridge. Plz hlp.

The only - ONLY - good thing about the recent media attention on Smashing Pumpkins is that Jimmy Chamberlin is finally getting the respect he deserves as part of the pantheon of great rock drummers. They would never have reached those heights without him.

Gore Vidal Sassoon@jimmyjazz1968.bsky.social

Just going to leave this inspiring story right here…sweet dreams…

But I gotta say, the money must be crazy good for Jimmy to endure 35+ years of spending that much time with Billy Corgan, who has not emotionally aged past 14. God, I’m 44 now, I could not conceive of wanting to date a 19 year old.

Mark my words, this stuff happens downstream of trans sports bans. Once you start shouting "unfair competitive advantage!" it's hard to get that out of people's heads, and if they see it can be weaponized against kids better than their kids, they'll use it.

They called the cops on this 3-year-old Black boy because he was kickin the white kids' ass on the soccer field.

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

The daily risk of being detained, beaten, murdered, or kidnapped to a concentration camp just because you look a certain way is a pretty powerful motivator.

As turnout in Texas nears 3 million votes, Hispanic turnout is now exceeding presidential levels. More Hispanics have voted than did at this point in the 2024 presidential election. What's driving this huge increase? Young voters.

This is so repulsive. The "good German" energy here is stunning. Just a repulsive display of cowardice in the face of evil masquerading as realpolitik.

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

Who would've thought that the same person who pioneered illegal eco-block placement in the public right of way would also disregard and violate campaign finance laws?

My kids have developed this metric of "who has the better relationship with Dad" that seems to be based on how much football each child watches with me. It's silly, but I'm not particularly opposed to it. I think my daughter understands basic offensive formations now.

What a guy and what a career. I met him once on Capitol Hill years ago. Seems like someone who really made the most of a long life.

I'm no genius, but I do know that the more they restrict access to the Musk documentary, the greater "forbidden fruit" appeal it gains.

e.w. niedermeyer@niedermeyer.online

Alex Gibney told me that everyone he knows at HBO says "MUSK" will stream there in January, and they are making concrete plans about how that will happen... so if it doesn't happen, you'll know that Musk's investment in Skydance was why here's the clip: youtu.be/LSCoQbiTR98?...

I say this with real respect for all of my mutuals involved in the discourse about the voter guide (that I like, and that I used), but I am *this close* to a muting spree. It is a beautiful, sunny fall day outside. Please touch grass. You are making weird assumptions about each other.

I'm not in D5, but I appreciated the great interviews @publicola.bsky.social conducted with both candidates. I actually thought both came across well, but I do think it was clear that Nilu Jenks has a much better ground-level understanding of the problems facing the district.

In light of yesterday's RV law vote in council (among other things), I would say that we do need elected officials with a better ground-level understanding of the problems facing the city. The paternalistic looking down from above approach is taking city govt in some odd directions.

I played thousands of matches of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online, using the online redemption cards from my kids’ collection. I am a master of the Zamazenta theme deck. No EXs, no Vs or VMaxs, nothing fancy, and I still kicked a lot of ass.

To quote Bill Hicks talking about George Bush during the Persian Gulf War: when did this guy become such a fuckin' demon, man? Clearly, he sees this as his big shot to run on for reelection. But the housing and shelter to make this work just doesn't exist, so it will fail, quickly and publicly.

Erica C. Barnett@ericacbarnett.bsky.social

People in RVs just have to "follow some standard rules about taking care of themselves and their neighbors," Strauss says cheerfully, noting that they have to be on a waitlist for "housing or shelter." There is one shelter bed for every three homeless people in Seattle.

Brilliant marketing for Starlink - contract with us for your communications needs! Elon might arbitrarily decide to personally throttle your service at any time! The only real talent he ever had was being a hype man, and for a while he was really good at it, but he's too far over his skis now.

This is true of like, every bar in every suburb too. Car dependent environments naturally lend themselves to impaired driving if bars are present. Government punts the responsibility to individuals, but the state permits them to operate, and in some cases requires parking.

any time i hear about the prohibition and risks of drunk driving, all I can think of is how 99% of bars and liquor stores in the south have a parking lot.

Excellent, well-reported article. I will say (not in SDOT's defense as they are the failure point here), WSDOT Local Programs is not an easy entity to work with if you want to procure public works projects quickly. Idk how much legislators could influence that, or if it's just baked in.

Working on the West Seattle Bridge repair procurement years ago, I will say I had a straight up bad experience working with that office, in a "flying in at the last second and threatening to derail the entire project schedule" way. Fortunately we avoided that outcome, but the sour taste hasn't left.

Today marks the end of five years of cohabiting with various extended family members for various reasons. No more sick and dying parents, no more sister-in-law not being able to figure out her life and fighting with her ex for custody of my niece.

Our kids were barely school aged when this started, now my oldest is a middle schooler. I honestly don't know how to live as a household that's *just* the four of us anymore, but I am relieved that we get to re-learn that again. It is time for a season of quiet and rest.

I remember watching The War Room, and how it was all a game to him and his wife. It’s all a game they think should be close because that’s what juices the consultant class. Centrism is just a way for the same consultants to work both sides.

Worked for WashPIRG for 3 days. Shitty hours going door to door in residential neighborhood ls begging for money. After day 3 they said I’d be let go if I didn’t get my numbers up. I decided to save them the trouble.

I have a breakfast taco guy on days I work in the office, and we have a really good system. Every once in a while, I give him a big cash tip, and in exchange he gives me 2 for 1 breakfast tacos. When he starts charging full price again, I know it's time to give him more cash.

In 7 years of doing this, we have never once coordinated or spoken about this arrangement. It happened organically. We just exchange pleasantries; I don't even know his name. He lets me cut in front of other customers and has my order ready by the time I get to the counter. I love it.

Anyway, my tacos were full price yesterday, so I brought cash this morning. He opens at 8 and I am hungry. Brisket and jalapeno cheddar sausage await. I know that's not the healthiest breakfast but these tacos were The Thing that lured me back to the office after covid. I can't resist.

Tbh I don’t know if it’s the media or just the politics around EVs are rancid: 1. Our EV national champion is run by TEMU Albert Speer 2. Republicans think climate change is fake and gay 3. Dems think EV strategy should satisfy a UAW wishlist first

I don't think most Americans understand yet what a global laggard the USA is turning into here. Media instead told us that electric vehicles were a fad that didn't work.
