It's been awhile since I've posted so let me reintroduce myself! My name is Lyndsey Little and I paint whimsically BIG food (and sometimes other things) on cardboard ♻️

I heard that burn out from work means you've maximized your potential to grow, & thus enjoy the work and the joy of learning. It dawned on me that this is true for art as well When I feel artist burn out (which I'm in the thick of right now, actually) I stop what I'm doing to make art for MYSELF

PET PORTRAITS! My very first ones (on cardboard anyway) Burn out kept me from finishing the Halloween candy I envisioned but I ended up making things that were fun or meaningful to me (the giant hot dog and the Furby) & to others (the smaller hot dog commission & the pet portraits)

But changing subject matter is just one way you can fight burn out. You can also change up mediums! Orbsomething low effort like doodling! The point is to keep things fresh. As a bonus, you might find unexpected sales, level up your skills, or find a new path you want to explore. Just keep going πŸ’–πŸ’•

I switch to a completely new subject! I normally paint giant food art but I briefly paused the candy to paint a giant hot dog. The hot dog led to a commission of a "smaller" hot dog. Not bad! But my burn out wasn't over...

I still had this deep desire to heal so I painted one of my long-lost childhood toys It helped but the burn out was still present I also felt a little guilty by painting for myself & not making $$$. That's possibly not a healthy mindset to have but art is my SOLE source of income hence--

I tried to make 31 pieces of candy art in time for Halloween but burned out around the 20th one. This was a personal goal I wanted to achieve for a long time now but it was also for my second-ever art drop. I wanted to sell a lot of pieces. The Skittles painting is where stopped, around mid-Oct.

I had to remind myself that 20ish Halloween candy artworks in 1.5 months is good! I also managed to sell 4 pieces Why am I so hard on myself? It's because I always set unrealistic goals Even so, burn out is hard to overcome... But this is my personal fail-proof method to recover from burnout:

Part of me wonders if I'm safe from my work being fed into A.l. because my artwork is hyper realistic versions of things that already exist-- so the technology would just read it as food and not art-- or in this case, a giant Furby

You know those episodes of Kitchen Nightmares where Gordon Ramsey yells at the owners and kitchen staff for buying and selling frozen food, passing it off as homemade? That's what it's like when I see artists with actual skill resorting to using AI

Have you ever been embarrassed and proud of something at the same time? I just locked myself out of the house. Thankfully I left the window to the art studio open so I climbed through the window, which is about 5 ft off the ground 😡

I accidentally let a bunch of small bugs into the bathroom via an unclosed window I later found a spider in the living room so I put it in there to eat the bugs. I told my hubby & he said he did the same thing w/ a grandaddy long legs this morning! The bathroom is now the spider room! πŸ˜‚

It always feels like all the wrong people die, but I think it’s because there are far more beloved people than there are bastards.

If you're curious, I usually get three responses when people recognize that I'm American: 1. "Did you vote for Trump?" (rightfully in disgust) 2. "You better practice a Canadian accent so people won't think you're American." 3. "Oh, you're from the US? Congratulations on escaping!" 😭

Sorry about the lack of updates... My husband and I have moved to Australia! We are slowly getting settled and then hopefully I can get back to making giant food art. In the meantime, I've been doing tiny food sketches like this iconic Australian snack!
