Every school wants to improve outcomes for their students But professional learning is often the first thing to be squeezed when time is short. It's expected to drive lasting improvement, yet it's rarely given the time, design or evaluation that meaningful learning requires.

@profcoe.bsky.social and Raj Chande at #REd25 There are a *small* number of teachers who we can currently say are statistically (with 95% confidence) better or worse than average for student results… but even the ‘best’ teachers have individual classes who have negative progress, and vice versa!

I think this is the clearest and most authoritative explanation of attention and working memory I have seen. I'm not usually a fan of these diagrams, but the depth of explanation here is very rich. Is the choice of red/green (which many people can't discriminate) a deliberate metaphor?

After good conversations with @eleanorrrlouise.bsky.social and @rlrossi64.bsky.social I now think the root EHCP problem is: There are too many and lots shouldn't need them. Some do need them and will drown if they are taken away. We can't tell the difference between the two groups.

The Great Teaching Toolkit: Are you ready for it? Although the GTT is available to all, not every school is ready for it – and that’s ok. But how do you know if your school’s culture, philosophy, and priorities make the Toolkit a good fit for you now? Find out here 👇

My talk is about feedback. If you believe: - I already get good feedback about my work - I can judge how well a lesson has gone - I can judge whether students are learning - I do learn from experience - I can manage a complex organisation based on intuition I'll be telling you you are wrong

Bang on. The effect of many educational interventions fades out (or is well on the way) by 2 years after implementation: edworkingpapers.com/sites/defaul... If you're feeling extra combative in an INSET session, don't just ask "what happens tomorrow?" ask "what happens in 2026?"

edworkingpapers.comedworkingpapers.com
Adam Boxer@adamboxereducation.bsky.social

The key to a successful INSET goes beyond the content, as it relies on "what happens tomorrow?" You've introduced your shiny new idea. Ok. How are you going to ensure it is implemented? How are you going to sustain your focus? >

New blog post. Part 2 of a series on what our assessment tells students about history. We meet the ghosts of assessment present and future (probably a bit out of date now but you can blame Dickens for having one of each ghost). #UKEd #UKTeaching #EduSky occamshairdryer.wordpress.com/2024/08/24/a...
