In May, Twitch deleted 100K speedruns among millions of other videos. With the help of ArchiveTeam and @archive.org we saved these speedruns and 500K+ other popular Twitch videos. My search tool for viewing these archives is now live! archive.speedrun.club

Huge news! ArchiveTeam has just begun saving ~100K Twitch highlights from @speedruncom.bsky.social and related websites that I discovered were at likely risk of automatic deletion by Twitch. Your computer can join the archival effort here: github.com/ArchiveTeam/...

We won't be able to save the entire website, but we have already nearly finished scraping the metadata for every video on Twitch, and will likely do another pass of non-speedrunning but highly-viewed videos once our current queue finishes.

There are ~90K Twitch highlights submitted to speedruncom that are scheduled to be deleted. I'm personally mirroring as many as I can in HD to a new YouTube channel (with help from @notquiteapex.net) and working with ArchiveTeam to get a 480p archive (~100 TiB) into the Internet Archive!

Expect some more information on speedrun.club once I'm closer to having something to share 💖 If anyone has any lists of highlights (or even API endpoints to scrape) from other speedrunning websites like Mega Man Leaderboards feel free to DM me and I'll add them to the queue!

My girlfriend plays a game that blocks you from naming characters inappropriately, but for some reason it blocks a ton of normal names like "Valerie" or "Fiona" or "Hailey" or "Squidward" or "Sean" so she asked me to look at the game's code to find out why… 🧵

While this "E" filter was a made-up example, some REAL examples of blocked text from the game include: ay, ey, io, aer, ea, eoa, ie, ier, let, & ward. (I won't share the full list; I'm not sure what it's for exactly but I assume it's Chinese slurs.)

For some inexplicable reason, the very last blocked term is actually a RegEx filter. I won't bore with the specifics, but an example filter would be "L(A|E|U)X" which means "L, followed by an A or E or U, then X". You might see where this is going…

felt like GDQ was in a bit of a lull for a few years but these past few events have been really good, i love all the new details like the break channels and predictions and ui updates, i love the increasingly absurd (/pos) runs (nsmbw piano, crazy taxi),

what even does karl jobst have to gain by calling out 3 minutes of content from a nearly 3 year old video. a cheap segue? maybe, but wouldn't it've been more compelling if the segment was an example of how to "do it right"? wouldn't it embolden his later suggestions on how to "do it right"?
