Sunday morning, finally spinning the 8LP BotW soundtrack that arrived a couple weeks ago. At least so far I’m impressed by the quality of the pressing. Very little noise and mix is top notch. Listening to the Hateno Village BGM, it’s amazing the memories that come back, even 10 years after playing

Sad to say that the latest episode of GitS fell flat for me. The deep existential ontological mumbo jumbo only hits when it is balanced by action and light-hearted banter. Watching a ball of junk talk to a ghost for 23min just isn’t that interesting, no matter how many fancy words you throw out.

That feeling when you go check the release date for the next volume of Tower Dungeon and it turns out it came out 2 days ago and is ready for you to read just in time for the weekend ᒄ₍⁽ˆ⁰ˆ⁾₎ᒃ♪♬

Tested Switch 2 VRR Games need to be patched, only Welcome Tour supports it now It supports full LFC in 120hz mode In 60hz mode, it supports between 40-60hz like Xbox which is better than PS5's 48-60hz support Thankfully with the internal screen being VRR, most games should have it going forward

Long before we had a kid of our own, my wife and I visited the war museum in Nagasaki. A vivid memory of that visit was hearing a little boy turn to his dad and ask “dad, what happened to their eyeballs?” (Vaporized by the heat of the explosion) As a parent now, I’m not sure the right age for that

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima plans to create a new exhibit area for children in fiscal 2028, including a "selective viewing" area where they can choose not to view images deemed to be too distressing. 👉 ebx.sh/CS42Gi

But I do think that it’s okay to show kids disturbing things sometimes. Part of growing up is seeing the horrors of the past. They teach us what we cannot allow to happen again.

Went to an arcade in Halifax that had a framed portrait of Shigeru Miyamoto looking like he's about to be at the center of a murder mystery in the pacific northwest

I’m not sure if this will be useful to anyone, but if there are any other region-hopping folks out there, I can break down some information in this thread about how the Nintendo eShop works with games/accounts from different regions. (1/6)

For example, the switch version of 13 Sentinels does not use an universal SKU. I think the main reasons companies will make separate SKUs is either due to some languages not being ready for the JPN release, to save space on a small game card, or simply to save $ licensing VO across regions.

Finally, if you have a game card that doesn’t match the region of your account, a good way to check if DLC you purchase will be compatible (i.e. it’s the same SKU) is to press ‘+’ on the game’s icon, and select “Software Information>Nintendo eShop” If the game’s eShop page opens, it’s the same SKU.

For games that use a universal SKU, DLC will be compatible regardless of the region of the game card. For example, I bought Mario Wonder on the JPN eShop, but since it uses a universal SKU, I was able to buy the Switch 2 upgrade from the European eShop. Most 1st games work this way, but some don’t.

A 1st party example is Xenoblade 2. NA and Europe share an SKU, but JPN is different. In my case I bought the NA game card, so I was able to use the Switch 2 upgrade from the European eShop. More 3rd party games have separate SKUs, since often these release at different times across regions.

Most games on Switch 1/2 are ‘universal SKUs’. They have the exact same data no matter where you buy them, and the language will be determined by the language setting of your Switch. Furthermore, even if you change account region, these games will still be marked as ‘purchased’ on their eShop page.

Saw credits on Splatoon Raiders and did a bit of the endgame content. Overall I found the enemy design to be absolutely superb. But the bosses were disappointing, especially the last boss, which was a slog. That said, the final cutscene was fantastic (inspired by Gurren Lagann in the best way)

Kinda hooked on Splatoon Raiders, hope Nintendo accelerates experimenting with new IP/genres because their younger devs are making great stuff

Splatoon Raiders has completely taken over my game time for the last two days. What I find interesting about the experience is that the second-to-second action is not necessarily perfect, but the reward loop is so expertly tuned that the temptation to just go on one more raid is hard to resist. 1/3

Observation 1: the bland environments At first I was surprised how visually boring the stages are. However, I think this is intentional. Due to the sheer number of enemies, and the importance of ink on the ground, I think the dull colours in the background help make everything very readable. 2/3

Observation 2: unpleasant BGM Compared to e.g Mario, where the BGM for each stage is memorable and catchy, I was surprised how discordant and even grating a lot of the raid BGM can be. But as a result, the feeling of relief when you return to the base and hear the killer BGM there is immense. 3/3

#SAROS Digital Deluxe is on sale for #SummerSale, and you can also try our opening 2.5 hours on PS Plus 🎮 There’s never been a better time to check it out for yourself ☀️ For those who haven’t experienced SAROS yet, I can’t wait for you to try it and love it next 👑

Games I wish I could be playing now if I had more than 2 hours a week to play games: -Ace Combat 7 (want to clear before 8) -Granblue Fantasy Relink (PS5 Pro patch!) -Mina the Hollower -Rhythm Heaven Groove (going for those Perfects) -Pragmata (got distracted half way through, but still enjoying it)

A small project I finished today was replacing my OEM control stick with a fully metal stick and bowl (Renaissance N64 Tao V4) Pricy, but the feel is absolutely perfect, and it is nice to know that it will not wear down like the OEM parts. Naturally I broke it in with some Mario 64 and F-zero X.

StarFox is a classic of the genre, and the new remake has been a nice excuse to get back into it. I had to stop this morning, however, because it was getting physically painful tapping the fire button so frequently. Frustrating that there are many free buttons, but no option for turbo shot, etc.

Another accessibility option that would have been great: a single button for Barrel Roll, to avoid the need to double-tap. Could have kept ZR/ZL as tilt left/right and made L/R dedicated Barrel Roll buttons. The skill of using the BR is the timing; there is no need to add mechanical difficulty.

Played through the whole thing tonight. Just as wonderful as it ever was. What a game. I want games to be more like this.

Finally free from the Vita…! One of Vanillaware’s lost treasures. Can’t imagine anything topping this announcement for me.

Looooved this chat with @gregorylouden.bsky.social of Housemarque. I have the privilege of talking to a lot of creative leads and very few can articulate their craft and the path to mastery the way in which Gregory can. Also, Saros slaps. Get amongst it!

Thanks IGN for naming TANUKI: Pon’s Summer as their game of the show this year 😊 My co-founder Arioka gave a great speech. For him to win an award for his game, in his hometown after 14 years of going to Bitsummit was awesome to see!

Harry Krueger had already left Housemarque by the time I arrived, but I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and talking game design with him several times. I was nervous because he directed some of my all-time favs. I cannot wait to play more of what he and his team at Cosmic Division are cooking up!

Each time my mom visits Helsinki she is kind enough to drop off a box of my old games. This time was part of my PSP collection. Riding the tram home the thought that crossed my mind was “I bet nobody in a million years would be able to guess that I have Ninja Scroll on UMD in my backpack right now”
