Early this year, I visited Ingram, a TX town of ~1,900, to check out a tip. The area was starting to recover from its worst flood in a century. But as Latino workers drove to jobsites to help rebuild, the tipster said, a cop in a black Dodge Charger kept stopping them ... 🧵

As someone who was raised Christian and Texan… there’s a lot of good point here that those of us who have seen our faith twisted into *othering* people in order to dehumanize them. (caveat - I too traveled down that path for a bit before seeing it for what it was a “course correcting”) Anyway…

1. I'm late to this, but there's still time for a word on James Talarico's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel's show. It's important, because I don't think most people on the left appreciate how threatening he is.

Sigh. Just coming back to this… and we could really use an edit button for typos. *pointS plural *and (not “a” before course correction)

I think that many people are not as inherently far-far-right in Texas as others assume. But they’ve been led down the path of “protecting” (their faith, their family, their children) by leaders who have now twisted that loyalty into something hateful. HOWEVER….

Those Christians were faced with a choice of a “Christian” or a “godless heathen” so they voted with the “nobody’s perfect, but at least they’re Christian.” Talarico allows them to embrace their beliefs *and* step away from the path they don’t really want to be on anymore. This is HUGE.

There has long been an undercurrent within conservative/evangelical Christianity in Texas that has mobilized its followers into being angry about something. They’ve framed this into “they’re taking away our freedom to be Christians” and built coalitions around the next thing to boycott.

“It’s not unusual for companies going through bankruptcy to compensate top executives to get through the process… David Phillipps, CFO, received a $3.37 million retention payment and John Ruzich, CLO, received $2.6 million, both on June 24. That’s also when O’Neil was paid his $6.375 million.”

Trump didn't like Ramaswamy until he saw him sticking up for child rapists and their enablers. He hated the Ivy League until Cornell had a prominent fraternity gang-rape story in the news. He's not just a rapist, not just a serial rapist—he's a rape *enthusiast,* and it's why Republicans love him.

Looks around at the national debt, the cost of everything, and how Medicare & Social Security are potentially insolvent … sitting on $1M after retirement really isn’t that much if you live to 90 or more. A hospital stay, home nursing, or a nursing home could wipe most of that out very quickly.

High gas prices are Ukraine’s fault but as soon as the War in Iran, which isn’t a war - it’s kinetic action, and if it were a war we would have won it 6 times, is over then the strait, which isn’t closed will be open and prices which aren’t that bad will drop immediately…

Q: In the new Fox News power rankings, it shows that less than a quarter of rural voters are happy with the state of the economy. Are you concerned? TRUMP: No, because as soon as the war is over -- it's gonna end very soon -- oil is gonna drop like a rock. It's a small price to pay
