May he rest in peace. โค๏ธ Iโ€™ll always remember him as Bester in Babylon 5. He could play a bad guy so well.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Finished season two of the Sopranos. Thoughts. Tony is still my โ€œfavorite character.โ€ The constant policing of each otherโ€™s masculinity is fascinating to watch. I enjoy watching Christopher fuck it up. Poor Dr. Melfi (and I do know about Employee of the Monthโ€ฆ)

Guys, โ€œThe Mourning Robotโ€ won 2nd place in the Rhysling Awards! Huge thanks to all the readers and @uncannymagazine.bsky.social for giving this one a home. This poem (+ spec poetry in general) has taken me to so many places this year (nebulas! hugos! my first pub in China!), and I am so grateful.

So the "advice" doled out in this column makes me INCREDIBLY fucking angry as a former kid who was repeatedly taken to task by teachers for "inappropriate" drawings, culminating in a 9th-grade suspension spurred by Columbine paranoia and residual Satanic Panic. Arionne here says that was JUSTIFIED.

Personally, I do think that horror is a broad genre. I love writing, reading, and watching it because horror is supposed to be uncomfortable, introspective, and shouldnโ€™t leave you with any neat solutions. It has to be a little mean and very honest. If a horror story canโ€™t do that wellโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll pass.

We really need to get into the gender essentialism happening here. Cozy=girly/Scary=man. It's incredibly anti-feminist patriarchal framing in the service of defending a straight guy against an actual nonbinary queer person who presents very feminine. I feel like I'm losing my fucking mind.

I am not worth this much of a big thread taking down an essay you clearly did not read while you try and position me as a sexist coming after "girly things" which jfc the gender essentialism that comes up in these topics.

Ding! Ding! Ding! One the nose! โ€œHorror is where we donโ€™t have to lie about the bad things. We can talk about them. They give us a language to acknowledge evil when everything else is telling us we have to be positive and to bury our grief, our anger, and our pain.โ€

incredibly humbling to have been first through the breach on this. no trans woman had ever had a horror novel at a big five publisher before MANHUNT, which is not to slap myself on the back but to comment on how lonely and scary it was. www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

publishersweekly.comTrans Horror Takes OffThe subgenre, which weaves gory and supernatural tales out of the real terrors of cisnormativity, has quickly become a reader favorite.
