Sadly, funding cuts and/or stagnation are affecting so many cultural institutions, so I’m looking forward to sharing our experiences and concerns. And hopefully, coming away with some new ideas and strategies!

Part-time “cast member” at the Disney Store. Didn’t get kept on after the Christmas shopping season because by the end of a shift, my greeting smile looked like…

The Ancestry DNA ethnicity update is out and mine still mostly ties with my research: 76% Scottish, 12% English, 11% Irish. But 1% Belgian?! 🤷‍♀️ #Genealogy

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano

Yay! Existential Photography got a shot of my fake arm side at the Mission Ren Faire. I forgot to take a picture before the arm fell apart and I moved to more of a baby carrier situation with a shawl 😄

St Ursula’s in Danger. BBC adaptation about 1920s schoolgirls investigating a ghost, with a very young Rupert Graves too. The “ghost” absolutely frightened the life out of me. We had it on a VHS with something else recorded afterwards and I used to close my eyes while we fast forwarded the tape.

The second event was a joint one between the Vancouver Historical Society and the Vancouver Heritage Foundation, celebrating fifteen years of Places That Matter.

Happy Little Shop of Horrors day! (Movie version, anyway. The stage show uses September 21.) As you may have guessed by my choice of puppet, I’m a big fan 😄 These are the “don’t feed the plants” stickers I handed out at the Mission Ren Faire.

I also have Canuck! 🔪🐦‍⬛

90s internet kids with a love of webrings and stumbling across weird little websites, Pixel Area is for you! I'm at x82y82 - pxlarea.com/x82y82

I've always liked the part of the web where people build things for themselves. A blog about a very specific hobby, a small site someone just wanted to exist. They're everywhere. They've just become surprisingly hard to stumble across. That's why I made this field. #indieweb #smallweb

Sometimes I browse through heritage auctions and I find the occasional odd gem, but today I stumbled upon the mother-load: these ridiculous grocery store ads promoting the release of The Jungle Book, and each one has me absolutely reeling. Sharing them here so you too can share in my bewildered joy

25 years ago today B3ta launched Well, 25 years ago today, we launched the version of the website you are familiar with, we were going for at least three months beforehand, if you check newsletter dates on issue 1. However most b3tans look at the board post date - so happy birthday us. Sort of.

That’s all, folks! Thanks for following along with my #100VancouverIcons. Hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have. See all you 100DaysProjectScotland-ers next year ❤️ #100DaysProjectScotland

Day 100 of #100VancouverIcons is the Marine Building. Built in 1930, it was the city’s tallest skyscraper at the time. And it still is a gorgeous piece of art deco, surrounded by modern offices now. #100DaysProjectScotland

Day 99 of #100VancouverIcons is the East Van cross. Initially a symbol for graffiti artists, the cross was turned into a work of art in 2010 as ‘Monument for East Vancouver’ by artist Ken Lum. #100DaysProjectScotland

“That care for the dying will trigger the instant muscle memory of caring for small children” This was absolutely true for me. And oddly, it helped. “She can’t help it, but you can help her” went through my head so often during those final two weeks.

Day 97 of #100VancouverIcons is one of the Granville Island cement trucks. Heidelberg Materials is based on the island and decorates some their trucks to look like fruit and veg from the public market. #100DaysProjectScotland

On 9/11 2001, the US closed its airspace after unfathomable terrorist attacks. Flights bound for the US were forced to divert, with many opting to land in Canada. Under Operation Yellow Ribbon, the small town of Gander, NL and the surrounding communities accepted 38 planes. buff.ly/Ugvm4vL

Day 93 of #100VancouverIcons is the PNE Wooden Roller Coaster. Opened in 1958, it’s the oldest roller coaster in Canada and was the largest when it opened. As seen in Final Destination 3 😄 #100DaysProjectScotland

Day 91 of #100VancouverIcons is a suspension bridge. You can decide if it’s the tourist’s choice (Capilano) or the locals’ (Lynn Canyon). And I know this is another North Van cheat! (And the little guy is meant to be waving, not giving the finger 😆) #100DaysProjectScotland

Day 90 of #100VancouverIcons is the Sam Kee Building. Measuring just 4’11”, it’s recognized by Ripley's Believe It or Not as the world's thinnest building. #100DaysProjectScotland

Day 88 of #100VancouverIcons is Engagement, the two giant rings at Sunset Beach. They were installed in 2005 and are a popular place for engagements. #100DaysProjectScotland

Day 87 of #100VancouverIcons is the McBarge. The Friendship 500 was a floating McDonald’s restaurant built for Expo 86. It was anchored ununsed in Burrard Inlet then moved to Maple Ridge, where it capsized and partially sank into the Fraser River. #100DaysProjectScotland
