Imagine doing something as bad as book banning, and also doing it so badly. I don't know if this is the same custom AI that recommended banning imaginary books I made up, or if they just asked ChatGPT. Hopefully we get a list of those 1800+ books soon, keep an eye on @flfreedomread.bsky.social.

Today was my last day as Sunday Librarian for a while. We close for renovation at the end of the week. I brought bagels, because bread things make most people feel better.

No corporation is gonna silence our message! ❌👑 Keep helping us amplify #NoKings today so we can drive HISTORIC early vote turnout, and overcome Trump’s election sabotage.

In her 1992 book Dreamships, Melissa Scott writes about an AI construct on a spaceship possibly becoming sentient. The oppressed workers on the planet Persephone are outraged that a machine would be given rights that they don't have. There are riots. Been thinking about that today for some reason.

The notes from my visit with the doctor yesterday say I gave verbal consent for note-taking. I did not. I was not asked. My assumption is that they mean AI transcription since I don't recall any permissions ever being requested for a health care provider taking, y'know...notes.

This seems better than the policy they rolled out in January. "But there's a catch, and it's a big one. The effectiveness of any AI content filter depends entirely on accurate labeling." If authors and publishers aren't forthcoming about their processes, this doesn't qork.

Um, I have my father's eyes. My mom told me today that she had his old prosthetics and didn't know what to do with them. I said I'd take care of it. He died 13 years ago. He was self-conscious & NEVER talked about his eye. I didn't know. I just thought he squinted like The Bionic Man.

I’m surprised it’s not on demand Trump TV for $49.99 and you get a Trump commemorative souvenir coin.

"one of the biggest forms of censorship is not having a school library" ~ Melissa Jacobs at a NYCC panel (or so I hear) --- CORRECT

I have become bizarrely sensitive to the sound of a crinkling candy wrapper or a bag of chips. I don't want to go to work every day and play stupid hide-and-seek games with adults in the library.

Protect the freedom to read during Banned Books Week by learning about the issues and how to get involved on a local level.

A massive thread of resources, history, information, and material to help you not only fight and understand book censorship but protect the incredible democratic institutions of public libraries and public education. This is updated regularly!

The high cost of diesel is going to really bite into state and local governments. If the school district is spending an additional $35,000 a week on fuel, the money has to be taken from other things.

I have separated the art from the artist and am now whipping the art to stiff peaks, after which I will gently fold it into the artist before baking at 350 til golden and puffed

Montgomery Co. & all public libraries have war stories about visitors threatening them (in detail), slapping, keying their cars, following them, screaming slurs, and let's not get into the bodily fluids thing.

We work so hard to keep people's access to the library. Depending on behavior after being informed of the rules (sometimes over and over for months), my library's response ranges from asking someone to leave a branch for the day to banning them from all branches permanently. Bans can be appealed.

My mom won the "Outstanding Young Man" award from the Annapolis Jaycees in the 1970s. She has always insisted on women's rights. I find this hard to reconcile with her belief that my brother is the only one of her children who can un-jam her printer or power-wash her patio.

I got to watch a colleague have A Moment. A kid who came to the US just a year ago joined her Teen Advisory Board & has been outstanding. He came in today to tell her hee got a job. We don't always get that moment in the library. So good to find out someone aced a test or found housing, etc.

Incredibly important message from the heroes protesting NYU Langone's denial of health care to trans youth: "WAKE UP, WAKE UP, THIS IS YOUR FIGHT TOO "WHEN THEY'RE DONE WITH US, THEY'RE COMING FOR YOU"

Day 6 without a washing machine. The part just arrived so hopefully the spouse can fix it while I'm at work. Having flashbacks of walking in 3 feet of snow pushing my laundry in my grandma cart to the laundromat when I moved into my 1st off-campus apartment. And the 2nd. And the 3rd...
