I try to keep my kids off my socials. They deserve an unencumbered childhood. But I'll share this. We spent much of Tuesday listening to @booker.senate.gov's historic speech. And then, yesterday, my 11yo daughter gave me this. I asked her where the quote was from. "I made it up," she said.

It's quite incredible how much Founders wrote down and how much of what they wrote down we still possess. Helps to cut back against ideas that, "ounders couldn't have foreseen X." No, not only could they have, they did. Again, the only thing they did not (seem) to foresee was a cowardly Congress.

It is bracing to reread the Framers’ bone-deep fears about foreign corruption of the presidency and realize Trump is exactly what they were trying to prevent. slate.com/news-and-pol...

Great example of what we're losing when we lose @polygon.com and its writers. You need to really understand these worlds, their art, and more to ask meaningful questions that you can then use to craft an article like this. Sad day...

“In journalism, there are really bad jobs. And then there is a place like Valnet,” a former Collider contributor told TheWrap. “[It’s] one of the worst places that I’ve ever worked and is probably one of the worst journalism publications I’ve ever seen.” 🪦Polygon. You were one of the good ones...

Guess who just won the lottery?! Our farm box delivered 18 eggs as a dozen. Yes, I did email them to let them know and offered to pay for the 18... But still, in the moment, felt like a major win.

this single screenshot is America in a nutshell right now. Mythological ubermensch who must be smart because he's rich cannot do basic arithmetic, and it's merely an afterthought to an actual US Congressional candidate spreading a crazy conspiracy theory on a site dedicated to right-wing propaganda.

MAGA Republican House candidate Valentina Gomez: “…the moon landing was fake and we all know it.”

The thing that I continually find so strange about AI hype is that we are jettisoning and dismantling a bunch of proven very good systems *now* for something that we *hope* *might* be *as good* as those systems *some time* in the future. Which is absolutely contra to all best engineering practices.

Julia Carrie Wong@joolia.bsky.social

A generation of infants are being born HIV+ today who should have been born HIV-free because one of the principal propagandists of AI bullshit in the world dismantled PEPFAR and USAID.

Like protesting, small acts of resistance do matter. Add your comments to the Schedule F proposal starting April 23.

Wrote this in 2023, but it is relevant again because Trump proposing a new Schedule F rule. The basic issues remain the same, as does the value of public comment. You can submit a comment starting on April 23 and until May 23. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/a-tangible...

Like "Ratatouille" - "anyone can cook." "This does not mean anyone can be a great chef. Rather that a great chef can come from anywhere." *Every* American is not unsafe. But *any* American *can be*.

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

The point isn't that every American necessarily *is* unsafe now. The point is that every American has to wonder.

I know it's been quite normalized, but it really is very strange that people whom the status quo made inordinately rich and powerful somehow concluded that destroying the status quo was the way to become even more rich and powerful. Like, really? The "system" and gov't played no role in your wealth?

First of what I expect will be many clear assertions that whatever "plans" (using the term very loosely) that the Trump admin and broligarchs might have, they all take for granted things that absolutely should not be taken for granted.

Weird how they only ever challenge the results when they lose... That said, nothing to be flippant or joke about here. Hoping a higher court puts this madness to rest. But if not, get ready to volunteer and help out these NC voters. Thank you as always to @marcelias.bsky.social for his leadership.

Democracy Docket@democracydocket.com

NEW: A Republican-majority panel of the North Carolina Court of Appeals ruled to disenfranchise up to 65,000 voters in the state's contentious Supreme Court election unless they can fix their ballots in 15 days.

Always unsure when argument is made there appears to be more method than madness. Madness is proven. Especially because tariffs are not by sector, but by country. So the rollbacks are not so clear cut. But I respect @chrismurphyct.bsky.social immensely and thought it worth sharing and considering

Chris Murphy@chrismurphyct.bsky.social

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive. No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief. 1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

This is possibly the greatest "off label" usage of Leroy Jenkins ever devised. I salute you. As a lifelong gamer who is also the son of an economics professor, I can imagine no more perfect analogy than this. Bravo.

Indeed. The market rallying on "Liberation Day" on the *rumor* that Musk *might* be leaving government *soon* is a perfect example of not only goldfish-like memory, but also goldfish-like ability to grasp future consequences.

Karl Bode@karlbode.com

From talking with people I still don't get any sense that the public truly understands the rolling, concussive systemic failures coming due to the dismantling of all corporate oversight, regulatory autonomy, labor rights, consumer protection, and the social safety net this summer will be...hot

The most rewarding part of joining and supporting initiatives like this is knowing that it is not what you or I do alone but what *we* do *together* that makes the difference.

Indivisible ❌👑@indivisible.org

How did we overcome Trump’s minions and Musk’s millions? By organizing everyday people all across Wisconsin to show up and be heard. Thank you!

Seven polling sites in Milwaukee ran out of ballots due to "historic turnout" according to city election director. More ballots are being printed and on way. Very important to remind voters that if they're in line when polls close at 8 CT they get to vote. Do not leave. Please spread the word

I really hope Booker can set record for longest speech on floor, taking it from Strom Thurmond, who went just over 24h in *protest* of the Civil Rights Act. For Booker, who is a trailblazer in so many ways, to take *that* record, in protesting *this* administration, would be especially poignant.

Watching @booker.senate.gov hold the floor of the United States Senate with my family is one of the greatest civics lessons that I could imagine offering to my children. Thank you Senator for your courage and leadership. Yes, we all must do better. Be better. Thank you for showing the way.

I will admit to having a deep fondness for legacy codebases and established architectures. In large part because these principles have been drilled into my head fairly consistently by wiser engineers than I over the past 20+ years. Old code is *proven* code. Never forget that.

Anil Dash@anildash.com

For people outside the industry, it may not be common knowledge, but one of the most famous bits of technical writing of all time, was Joel Spolsky saying that you should *never* rewrite an entire code base — 25 years ago. www.joelonsoftware.com/2000/04/06/t...

@waldo.net continues to spark the most interesting conversations (internally in my head and externally) about software development in general and also specifically about LLMs. People really don't seem to understand how catastrophic these failure rates are.

There are a number of rather odd threads binding the SV tech bros to the Christian nationalists - most importantly the primary importance of "masculinity" - but this idea helps fill in the larger narrative around rapture/singularity as a cohesive (albeit very bizarre) narrative.

One person can make a difference. Believe it. Because it's true. I am here because one man was brave enough to do something. I am not always as grateful as I should be. But today, I'm reminded of what matters most - family, friends, and community. Thank you Tom. For literally everything. #AliveDay
