tl;dr this launch has just been confusing rather than positive or negative for me lmao. I think I just need to keep reminding myself that the goal was to explore some new design space, not reach mass appeal. I think the higher wishlist count than expected just got my hopes up a bit.

On the other hand - I'd set out to design a somewhat niche game that unapologetically leaned into the unique and interesting aspects of its systems, whether this led to "fun" or not. As a result, I expected more players to get frustrated or confused and leave negative reviews.

But it's sitting at 100% positive reviews so far, people are seeing past the friction at the surface layer and appreciating the level design underneath, and the players who don't stick with it seem to appreciate it with a "not for me" attitude instead of hating on the game.

I followed the common indie advice of doing steam events, getting wishlists, getting onto "popular upcoming", etc. I ended up hitting >8x my original wishlist goal by launch time. But when it came down to it, the conversion rate just ended up being low.

Hard to say why this is. Maybe $15 is too high for how the game looks. Maybe people watched gameplay and are too intimidated to try it. Maybe the opposite, and people just think it's another Monument Valley. Maybe the median play time is too low and made the Steam algo lose confidence in the game.

I hope you're all enjoying the game so far - if you have been, remember to leave a steam review! Really helps out with the steam algorithm if you do 🙂

I love Tad's work, but I was initially wary of this, worried I'd spend time trial-and-erroring, rotate/rotate/rotate until I see a path Two hours in, my brain has changed. Sure, still hunt-rotating, but I know what I'm looking for And then I found 9-3 by accident: WTF content confirmed

"That time will come again" Let's say, about a week from now?

Tad Cordle@rbdjellyfish.bsky.social

With the Cerebral Puzzle Showcase done and Next Fest coming to a close, I'm looking forward to returning to heads-down dev mode on A Little Perspective instead of worrying so much about demos and wishlist numbers :) That time will come again, but for now I can just focus on making a cool game.

It seems that not everyone has seen, heard, touched, tasted, or smelled the sublime witnesslike Sensorium. store.steampowered.com/app/1307870/... (by the @rbdjellyfish.bsky.social )

Pogo@pogofury.bsky.social

oh the teal one is Manifold Garden. Not sure how I've missed out on Sensorium but I'm adding that to the list!

Add "simplified chinese localization" to the list, why not (I'll do anything to further procrastinate on marketing).

(still some stuff to do before release ready - e.g. work on new trailer, go focus mode on marketing, do some QA testing and probably bump up the issue count again, decide I actually hate the game and redesign all the levels etc etc etc 🙂)

Speedrunners: if you don't have a Valentine yet again this year, it is because your PB's aren't good enough. Grind harder.
