⚡️US envoy Steve Witkoff lands in St. Petersburg for Russia peace talks. Witkoff's movements are taking place while Kyiv's ties with Washington are sharply deteriorating due to concerns that the U.S. could be withholding the delivery of Patriot air-defense missiles funded by Ukraine's allies.

OTD in 2016 Gorbachev stated quite categorically that he never received a promise by NATO not to admit new members to the alliance. He said the idea that Russia was betrayed is a myth. Which triggers my trolls.

It is worth noting that JD Vance told his grandmother that he wondered if he was gay. It’s always the insecure closest cases who childishly accuse other men of being gay.

This is the lamest of analogies. The notion that Talarico and Hinajosa managing to claw out a victory in an off year will result in Texas turning blue in 28 is a pipe dream. There is no parallel between losing on a battlefield in war and losing an election. But I’d love a drag off what youre smoking

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

yeah, the reason republicans are just not going to budge from texas is the reason why armies try not to abandon their capitals. it isn’t necessarily a strategic defeat to lose the seat of power, but it is a profound blow to morale.

The mind that boggles at this phenomenon—the inevitable result of putting violent xenophobic assholes in power and letting them run amok—is probably reeling at all sorts of basic cause and effect situations.

Trump: always thinking 2 steps behind.

LMFAO -- Trump is holding an event at the White House right now but there's no audio because the press pool isn't there. The Newsmax host notes that this is an example of Trump's attacks on the press "backfiring just a little bit"

Good.

⚡️ France and Slovakia's threat to scupper 3,000 EU sanctions to protect two Russian oligarchs gathers steam. "We will be asking for things in return if it goes that way," one EU diplomat told the Kyiv Independent.

One justice per appellate district. It’s the way SCOTUS operated for the vast majority of its existence. While we’re at it, time to enlarge the House. Hasn’t been done for 100 years. MCs now represent about 3 times more people than they did back then.

Allison Gill@muellershewrote.com

Did you know if we add four seats to SCOTUS in 2029, we could bring back the charges against Trump for January 6? They could overturn the immunity ruling and consider tolling the statute of limitations for the duration of Trump’s presidency. We could also resurrect the classified documents case.

The plain truth is JD has made vile accommodations with gutter racists and white nationalists of all stripes. Given his life experiences, you'd expect him to ruminate on how he/his movement are treating AES/his family. But JD largely agrees w/the white nationalists! newrepublic.com/article/2149...

A sweeping housing bill became law on Saturday without Donald Trump’s signature, after the president soured on a package of dozens of affordability provisions that he derided as “a yawn”

Campaign consulting malpractice. On the other hand, without Platner, we would have had Mills who, I am convinced, could not have beaten Collins. This may end up being Dems second best shot. First would have been a skeleton-free Platner. Obv, not a possibility.

I don’t know man, who is “the Democratic Party” if it’s not the voters?Democratic voters choose candidates, not party leaders. And party leaders need to listen to what voters are telling us - and right now they are demanding our party be bolder.

For the vast majority of its existence, the Supreme Court has had 1 justice for each circuit court of appeals. There are currently 11 circuits, plus DC. One per circuit would be 12, and to make the number odd, add one seat for the Chief Justice. That’s 13. Not a crazy thing at all.

There have been 9 justices since 1869—157 years. Back then, we had 1/10th the population (about 38 million people), 37 states, real GDP of around $98 billion and 80 sitting Article III judges. Today there are 837, with over 500 semi-retired senior judges who still hear cases.

Worth noting that Iran has said this in every negotiation over the last 20 years. Whether that means anything is up for debate. But there's nothing new about it. It's not even a concession. They say they won't try to build or acquire nuclear weapons.

I think that may be a good thing.
