Did you know if we add four seats to SCOTUS in 2029, we could bring back the charges against Trump for January 6? They could overturn the immunity ruling and consider tolling the statute of limitations for the duration of Trump’s presidency. We could also resurrect the classified documents case.

Genuine Question: Wouldn’t imposing term limits on Supreme Court justices be a faster way to break the Conservative majority than expanding the Court? Term limits could immediately get rid of Thomas & Alito. Once those justices are replaced, the majority would be liberal.

Yeah that’d be nice. Too bad the justice system is too easily gamed by the wealthy though. They will drag out cases and insulate their gains by giving it to shells and their families. We need a strong clawback amendment to deal with this admin. I know it’ll never pass though.

I'm in favor of expanding the court, but not to crudely reverse past rulings. That would expand and prolong the current court's corrosive doctrine that certain rulings were wrong and therefore did not constitute legitimate law. Bad as it was, the "separate but equal" ruling was law until . . . 1/3

. . . the Supreme Court determined that separate was inherently UNequal. If courts can simply say previous courts were wrong, we'd have legal chaos--exactly what the current court is promoting. I'd prefer that, in addition to expanding the court to re-establish balance . . . 2/3

. . . we pass a constitutional amendment clarifying that the President is subject to the law, just as we enacted the 14th amendment to overcome the noxious Dred Scott decision. I think such an amendment would have strong support in virtually all states. 3/3

I tend to agree with you and would add a few other amendments to the list: 1) remove dark & corporate money from electoral politics; 2) implement conflict of interest rules *with teeth* for all elected pols - incl. POTUS - and for the Supreme Court; 3) limit the scope & use of executive orders.

I agree. I believe there should be a package of amendments titled "the Articles of Restoration" (of our democratic republic). Just as the Bill of Rights clarified our Constitution at the outset, these articles could clarify things at the "re-set."

That's a dangerous, short term non-fix. In 2033 the GOP could add more, then what? Keep adding more? Better to add real oversight, or impeach any current justice if corrupt. Besides it's unnecessary. Ironically the next POTUS can take executive action using the sweeping powers SCOTUS gave Trump :)

We begged, BEGGED BIDEN to do something about SCOTUS. He REFUSED. We BEGGED him to retire. He not only refused, waited & then stole our ability to have an open primary; DC DEMS also LIED about his health. Those same people are in charge. What exactly are u expecting from Chuck & Haakem who R AWOL?

Sounds wonderful. I would prefer if we simply hold justices accountable for taking bribes and being a general menace to the law, because I don’t want Roberts, Alito, or Thomas to spend one more day out of jail. But I’m down for your plan too.

I agree with all of that, but I'm not sure how high the bar is to expand the court. Congress is supposed to be the branch that decides the size of SCOTUS. How high is the bar to expand? Is it a majority vote in the House and a 60-vote majority in the Senate?

could they look at all the corrupt pardons too? and if a president is impeached how does that impact his past pardons of corrupt individuals? it should certainly prevent future pardons.

They’ll be under enormous pressure to not expand because they’d have to carve out the filibuster and then they would be “setting precedent” for the republicans to do the same in the future. The media would eviscerate them because democrats don’t enjoy the same benefit of the doubt vs republicans.

Just talking about this probably puts us at risk. I’m serious. That said, expanding the Supreme Court to 13 should be on the table. Not just talking about it, just doing it. I hope the Dems have a Project 2028 in the works.

Well yeah, if they win control of both Houses by the end of this year, they have to start laying the ground work for the next POTUS and begin undoing stuff almost immediately. Maybe even Project 2027. 🤔

Yup. It’s time me for the nuclear option. Balance the court and dare the GOP to break it again. Who wants an endless cycle of “rebalancing” resulting in a broken SC with 30 justices?

It won’t change the fundamental problem with SCOTUS which is that they’re not accountable to anyone (lifetime appt and no judicial review except themselves). It’s a stop gap measure that will probably be easier to pass than a full SCOTUS reform.

all true. The problem, as I see it is...Democratic leadership who apparently don't even have the backbone to want to impeach Trump, much less make these most wanted and welcome changes.

And did you know that this will only fix the problem in the immediate short term? There’s nothing to prevent the court getting filled with 9 partisan Republican justices and four Democratic ones, leaving us in the same position as now. Or extending it again when they get back in power next.

Yes. I've been salivating at the thought. True also for quite a bit else that this Court has done not just recently but dating back to Citizens United in 2010 and such. All it would take would be a new federal campaign-funding-limitations statute. Even a new state law could trigger its overturn.

Or we take the House and Senate, impeach and remove his fat ass, and let him make it past a pack of feral dogs to get on the escape helo.

The poster said one for each district and one of the districts should be split into more districts. They didn’t elaborate why but I’m guessing amount of activity.

Jack Smith already gave it away in his motions to dismiss in 2024. He specifically asked for dismissal without prejudice because tolling the statute of limitations could be litigated. So it’s not a secret :)

That would be great but wonder if this midterm election will survive the rigging, and the USPS sabotaging mail in ballots, states removing voters from the rolls will mess things up for democrats?

Should we be talking about this? Maybe take a page from republicans and don’t acknowledge this. Just win elections then do what is necessary? They’ll be mad, but who cares?

Not enough...Elie explains why 29 seats work in favor of the Constitution.

You bet it is. I learned much from linked video. 1-Ask all your candidates/MOCs when they pose a great idea: "How are you getting that past SCOTUS?" 2-Congress could withhold SCOTUS funding until they agree to ethics reform. 3- Expanding the court: more is better. 29!

Yeah — I reeeaaallly want that documents case revved back up. Not just that he took and hid docs — but where it might lead as to what he did with those documents. Remember the unvetted assistant scanning them into a laptop — there was a purpose to that. Souvenirs don’t get scanned into a laptop

I'm glad that people are waking up to the fact that Biden should of expanded the Supreme Court when he ha d the chance. And Puerto Rico and D.C. should been made states. But Democrats refused because they assumed Trump would go away.

Puerto Rico was never going to become a state like that's just US liberal delusion. Everybody in Puerto Rico knows the statehood movements just political theater to mass corruption It is base is merely a plurality that if everyone else in Puerto Rico united behind a singular option would crush

bsky.app/profile/torr... I mean why else would in the middle of a water crisis the pro-statehood legislative assembly of Puerto Rico & Governor pass a resolution requesting Statehood instead of using their political time to address the water crisis caused by their decades of incompetence

And women could get our rights back. And all Americans without a white penis would once again have their voting rights restored without question. And LGBTQ people could marry, dress and the way they want to.

A majority vote in the House seems possible. We need to work our asses off to get to 60 in the Senate unless D's are going to blow up the filibuster.
