I've been a bit stumped when it comes to working on my project here lately, so tonight I did what any sane game developer would do: changed the sunny, vibrant environment to a dark, moodier and rainy environment. #gamedev #indiedev #godot
Here's a video of what I did with my girlfriend dictating how everything's done with the 2nd project. I'm dismissing her call to buy assets and use them since we don't even know what we're building yet. π€· Not sure why there's light bleeding through the walls. #gamedev #indiedev #screenshotsaturday
I did take a brief video of this as well. I unfortunately didn't get any more video recorded than this other than some in editor things, but tomorrow after the play tests I should have some more footage from those who are testing the prototype. π #gamedev #indiedev #indiegame
This morning I added a new area to and... lots of trees. Tomorrow morning I'll be putting in some collectibles, another NPC, more dialogue, and placeholder SFX/music for the July 1st private playtest. I'm so freaking excited to let people play this, even if it's barely anything. #gamedev #indiedev
This upcoming Wednesday July 1st is the target for the first "not me" play test. I'm nervous. I never let others play my projects, especially not when they're so bare bones and ugly as this one. It's been a strange development cycle for me to not make things perfect. #gamedev #indiedev
I wasn't feeling what I was going to work on today, so I added trees to the world and closed off some open spots from the initial rough design phase. π€· I also got system messages working so I don't have to print to console. A lot is planned for tomorrow. π #gamedev #indiedev #screenshotsaturday

I'm surprising myself with how much I'm getting done in such a short amount of time by focusing on making things functional now instead of trying to make the perfect, scalable system right off the bat. Currently adding stretch goals to my plan of having a playtest by July 1st. π #gamedev #indiedev
Hm... now the question is: do I update my prototype or 4.7 or stick with 4.6.2? π
#GodotEngine 4.7 is here! π Like a cult classic movie, Godot 4 has only gotten better with age; the 4.7 Director's Cut offers colors of never-before-reached intensity, helming a bevy of new features to eliminate any remaining friction between you and your vision! godotengine.org/releases/4.7/
"To make a game, all you need is a blank piece of paper and a few big ideas." Words from a making-of Spyro the Dragon video that have stuck with me for years... obviously there's a lot more to it than that, but at least pen and paper is accessible when I'm not at my computer. π€· #gamedev #indiedev
I managed to sneak in just under 2 hours of work on my game this morning. I avoided doing any coding or tweaking things and just focused on making an actual playable environment to capture the feeling I'm going for... this is what I came up with. It's ugly, but it works. π€·ββοΈ #indiedev #gamedev #godot
I didn't do much gamedev this evening as I'm fighting off a crud, but we did get some new pots for our herbs. There's something weirdly satisfying about growing things... whether it's plants or weird little capsule mohawk dudes in Godot. π€· It's been a productive day at least. #indiedev #gardening
if there's one thing i've rebuilt 47 times, it's a third-person controller π this time I'm focusing less on perfecting systems and more on crafting something that feels good. mohawk capsule dude can now run around the grassy planes with an orbiting camera. that's progress. π #gamedev #indiedev
i got up this morning and started throwing together a tiny prototype/testing environment in Godot. π im trying to recapture the feeling of ancient times before the prtscn button existed by taking the screenshot with my phone. but seriously, it feels good to be building again πͺπ₯Έ #gamedev #indiedev

It was only a matter of time with Opera in charge, but GameMaker is now on the AI bandwagon. Hugely disappointing development, surely opens the door for more AI features later... It certainly gives me pause for thought. www.gamedeveloper.com/production/g...
I guess about once or twice a year I try to turn my phone into something fresh, because I did it again... I just want to recapture that whimsical feeling of when we first got smartphones. Everything felt fun and unique, but now it feels like a blended mess of chaos and stupidity at every unlock...
I'm trying to turn my phone into less of a time waster and more into a platform that will keep me productive. So far my attempts haven't worked, but I'm trying something new this time around.
