THEY ARE NOT POWERLESS TO STOP HIM! Go back to Washington, stand on the steps of the Capitol and demand Johnson and Thune recall the House and Senate, and impeach him. THIS IS HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK! THERE IS LITERALLY AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL! (It's called the Constitution.)

Republican lawmakers are incensed about Trump's dismissal of Ukraine — and powerless to stop him. That frustration hit a new peak on Monday as they sought to address Trump’s decision to purchase Russian diesel, waive sanctions on Moscow, and potentially stop sharing intelligence with Ukraine.

Today, another American citizen & journalist was brutalized by Israeli settlers attacking Palestinians in the West Bank. This repeated violence & brazen impunity for attacks against Americans & Palestinians alike are unacceptable. When will Trump & Rubio DO SOMETHING?

Trump's DHS raids Rep. Omar's home because of paperwork filled out by her late father in 1995. The Trumpists are desperate. But loyalists at powerful agencies of the executive branch will obey orders. Desperation is dangerous. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.

I've spent a lot of time debunking claims that way overstate the migration impacts of wealth taxes. But fear not - if we put our minds to it, I do believe we can design a wealth tax high enough to get Elon to flee the country

The state of Alabama imposed a state law that requires pubic schools and universities to use the term “Gulf of America.” And obvious and flagrant authoritarian move and textbook example of what Barrett Taylor and I call postliberal governance. www.insidehighered.com/news/governm...

Agree. In fact, instead of love for the subject, it was done instead in contempt for the subject.

Releasing so many results at once is a choice to maximise the media impact. It was designed to increase the value of their company and their dominance in the conversation about what the future will look like. It was not done, even slightly, for a love of our subject. They don’t care.

Putin apologists of the right (eg Tucker Carlson) and left (eg Noam Chomsky) got what they wanted: a U.S. government that treats the war as not Russia’s fault, cuts military support for Ukraine, and pressures Ukraine to give up land in exchange for the Kremlin’s word. It has not resulted in peace.

Yesterday we showed how important primary turnout can be on a national level. But there's interesting things going on at the regional level, too. Most notably, in the core of the South, Democrats *outvoted Republicans* for the first time in decades in the primaries! (thread)

The Downballot@the-downballot.com

In primaries this year, Democratic turnout utterly dwarfed Republican turnout. But does it mean anything for November? It turns out the answer is very much yes. A new analysis from @donnermaps.bsky.social suggests that Dems are on track for a 13-point blowout in the House vote. Here's why.

I mean, let those among you who aren't “incredibly grateful” to a recently-acquired friend who just happens to be a Russian oligarch close to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin cast the first stone!!

You might say that 5% yields are fine since we had 5% yields before, e.g. up till early 2000s it was routinely higher. But also note that in 2007 before the crisis, the government debt was 60% of the GDP, while now it is 120% of GDP. That means that 5% yield now is like 10% yield in 2007.

In 1980, the debt was 30% of GDP and the yield was 10%. That means we were still paying half (in terms of GDP) the interest in 1980 than we are paying now.

10 year US government bond yield made it above 5%. Up mean good! Oh wait ... up mean bad here. The US government is already paying about 1.2 trillion in interest. Rughly 280 billion of that is going to foreign holders. Funnily enough, roughly 20 billion of that is going to Canada each year.
