The God of Bad Art gets offerings from all over the world, but in Their temple, They sometimes appear. "Why bad art?" I ask. "It is brave", the God replies. "To try and fail?" "No," the God chuckles. "Any creative work is a defiance of entropy, of Death itself. If you create, you do not fail."

"I was told," said the princess, "that the point of fairy tales is not to tell children dragons exist, but that they can be killed." "Oh, absolutely!" said the dragon. "You agree?" "These rich, selfish, powerful, cruel beings that need killing, did you think they're literally dragons, princess?"

We went to the Minneapolis Institute of Art yesterday to see the crop art. It was great! I did take photos of all and may post them (with alt text) but probably not until the exhibit is done in another month or so, because you should go see the 30+ pieces for yourself while you can.

I assume they were all at the State Fair but even though I went through it twice, still about 1/4 of the pieces were new to me. And at MIA I got to see all of them up close and mostly at eye level. I was able to take closeups and video and see detail I didn't see before.

It was also really nice to read the artist statements and get a little more background. For instance, the reason I couldn't find the original art inspiring the pink Landmark Center piece is because the original inspiring artworks were of Dresden and Zurich (by Ludwig Kirchner).

Go to your camera roll and search “boat” and post one that you like (I didn't even know photos in my camera roll were searchable by text. Learned my new thing for today.)

We have to tax billionaires not just because thats what tax is fucking for, but because they’re almost by definition sociopaths, so will do the absolute dumbest, cruelest, weirdest shit. You don’t allow world-changing power to only be given to people who don’t actually share your world with you.

A spaceship landed in the park. A door dilated. An alien emerged with a chair, which they sat down on, backwards. "Look," they said, "we're not here, okay? You know why nobody contacts you? Because the write-up would be such a pain." They sighed. "Get your shit together, okay? We know you can."

And all this other stuff! Paid family leave! The trans refuge law! Marijuana legalization! Carbon-free electricity by 2040! Like I don't expect Klobuchar to be a progressive champion. But I don't think she'll veto great legislation the DFL sends to her desk, either.

dflhouse.comHuffPost: How Minnesota Democrats Passed A Raft of Progressive Legislation With A 1-Seat Majority — Minnesota House DFLMinnesota Democrats entered this year’s legislative session in a similar situation. Last fall, they won control of the state’s executive branch, House and Senate — a legislative “trifecta” — but with ...

I'm not excited by Amy Klobuchar, but I'm excited to vote for her. Not just because her opponent is awful, but because I think we can regain the trifecta, and I remember the good and crucial work the DFL did last time they had it. Like free meals at school, in the news today.

A man (50s?) is standing by his car, demolishing a big slice of pizza with gusto only for some cheese to drip onto his shirt. (Oh no!) With a laugh and a sigh, he says to a passerby: "I can't take myself anywhere, can I?" Before good naturedly finishing his lunch. (5)

This is great. I hope more vendors participate next year. Curious if Sweet Martha's donated ingredients (flour, sugar, eggs, etc), or cookie dough, or both. I'm not opposed to any of the options. Bread and roses and all that.

Tuesday’s donations exceeded 10,000 pounds of food, according to Second Harvest CEO Sarah Moberg, who said the food could benefit more than 1,000 families. Second Harvest distributes food through a statewide network of food shelves and meal programs.
