Remember scientists aren’t giving up. After the Trump administration redirected Climate.gov and dismissed many of the federal employees who maintained it, former staff members launched a new independent website called Climate.us to help keep trusted climate information available to the public.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

This is horrific, this blood is on the hands of every trump enabler.

One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

Congratulations to all the Democratic candidates who won tonight. It’s a reminder that when we come together around strong, forward-looking leaders who care about the issues that matter, we can win. We’ve still got plenty of work to do, but the future looks a little bit brighter.

Trump’s latest target? The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, one of America’s last truly wild places. His administration just announced plans to open it up for oil and gas drilling, turning 1.56 million acres of pristine wilderness (home to polar bears, caribou, and migratory birds)

The New England Journal of Medicine and the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy will be publishing regular public health alerts to replace the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, which has been paused due to the federal government shutdown.

There is a bare minimum level of knowledge required to realize there are things that we don’t know and for them, to rely on the experts in the field. Such minimum level of knowledge seems to define the boundary between reason and stupidity.

15 US states and territories have formed a new Public Health Alliance, which will counter the absence of federal leadership by tracking outbreaks, issuing guidance, buying vaccines and more. Members of the new alliance include CA, CO, CT, DE, GU, HI, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, NC, OR, RI, WA.

Tens of millions of people have died from Covid. Every country should have responded with record investments in public health infrastructure. Instead the US government is putting us all at greater risk of more catastrophes by firing hundreds of top scientists whose job is to prevent outbreaks.

The editors of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) were apparently fired today. The precursor to MMWR began in 1878 to address emerging public health threats rapidly. We are not “great” without it. We are vulnerable to threats from sporadic foodborne illness to bioterrorism.

It’s #MythBustingMonday. Today’s myth: “Multiple vaccines at once will overload a child’s immune system.” This idea is popular with anti-vaccine groups and also POTUS. But immunology, decades of research, and real-world data all say the same thing: it’s false. 🧵

The BS asymmetry principle: The amount of energy needed to refute BS is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it. Thank you to every science communicator who is doing the almost impossible work of countering misinformation every day. Every single one of you is saving lives!

RFK Jr.'s ACIP managed to accomplish what they set out to do: create barriers to vaccines and stoke even more deadly vaccine hesitancy at a time where preventable childhood diseases are making a roaring comeback. #ImpeachRFK

RFKJ intentionally creates doubt, weaponizes the public’s scientific ignorance, and pushes a false balance between fringe ideas and scientific consensus. His fake skepticism encourages harm against children while saying he’s protecting them. It would be malpractice if he were actually a doctor.

If you can do so, please consider getting your COVID19 vaccine before ACIP meets on September 18-19. I don’t think it’s out of bounds to guess that, since they are going to manipulate data to falsely claim that the vaccine killed children, they will also recommend pulling FDA approval.

The FDA is taking their reviews of new drugs behind closed doors, with Director Marty Makary replacing vetted and publicly transparent deliberations with "panels of handpicked scientists who support his views." This is a miscarriage of science, and a betrayal of public trust in service of MAHA.
