If you work with #BuildGraph for #UnrealEngine then do check this out. You can now define OptionalRequires on nodes. If those dependencies fail the node will still run. If they pass then the output artifacts will be downloaded as expected. Super excited to see this land in ue5-main.

Guess who has a presentation to do today, who totally thought the presentation was later in the week, and who is so very much not ready! :D Should be a fun morning getting ready for that...

This is awesome to see!

The pattern parser is great. Recently had to do some work on a system that wasn't using Loki for the logs storage, and it made me once again really appreciate how fast Loki is, and how great the pattern parser is.

It makes me chuckle seeing so much space lost to just the filesystem existing... the first personal file server I built at home was made of smaller disks than I am losing just to the filesystem.

I just spent 20 minutes trying to figure out why a function call was magically optimized out. Even in debug. It turns out the previous line was a comment, and the end line was \r instead of \r\n (somehow??) and Visual Studio displayed that normally, but MSVC considered it's not an end of line 🤣

This is such a shame. I can only imagine the amount of stress this would produce for those running itch.

itch.io@itch.io

I kid you not, @itch.io has been taken down by Funko of "Funko Pop" because they use some trash "AI Powered" Brand Protection Software called Brand Shield that created some bogus Phishing report to our registrar, iwantmyname, who ignored our response and just disabled the domain

And tip #7893: some days don’t. Instead find the one thing that will make you happiest or most satisfied. Do that. Gotta replenish that good energy some times.

Gamedev tip #7892: You can actually only do one thing at time. Figure out the most important thing to do next and do that. Pick the single important thing that will move your game forward each day and make sure you get that done. You can do more, but make sure you do that one critical task.

This looks like a soilid bit of fun! Whislisted and looking forward to its release.

Daily Godot Tip #11: Using prints adds a space separator between things added to the print function while printt adds a tab separator. This makes it easier to print out multiple things at the same time without needing to do a bunch of string concatenation #godot #gamedev #godottips

#UnrealEngine upgrading their Horde build systems from 5.4 to 5.5 note the following: When using the CreateArtifact task in BuildGraph it was previously optional to specify the Change and Type parameters. It is no longer the case. Only really an issue if your project is 5.4 and Horde is 5.5.

Bad people do bad things on the internet. :( Seems Godot is being used here as security software is less likely to mark it as bad.

A malware loader, “GodLoader,” has been found exploiting the Godot runtime. This highlights the importance of only downloading software from trusted sources. Full details: godotengine.org/article/stat...

This seems truly insane. Trying not to just react to headlines and fear monger, but everything I have been reading about this over the last few hours makes it seem like it is as it sounds. Am I missing something? Is Unity really this insane?

Veridian Expanse@veridian-expanse.bsky.social

So Unity recently decided that the tiny startup I dayjob for needed to upgrade to Industry at 5k/year/seat. We had no chance to contest it because they would have killed our only product. They even threatened people we worked with in the past with the same. It's not just us. DO NOT USE UNITY!
