My main project right now is a raycaster prototype. I'm still building out some ideas for it, but the movement and collision feel really fluid so far. The art reads from .aseprite files, and supports palette swapping. It's challenging, but really satisfying to see a lot of color combinations easily.

Also I think it would be cool to build an RPG shop system around bartering - where items are valued differently depending on the shopkeeper.

People using AI to reverse engineer games to then turn around and publish clones is straight up theft. Why is anyone pretending otherwise? The only thing genAI is good at making is fucking talentless thieves. Prosecute the lot of them. Sue them to hell.

Found an OpenGL video from 14 years ago where the person is using Visual C++ 2005, recorded at 640x480 from a Windows XP machine. Gonna watch this whole thing just to feel something.

Probably the coolest thing he's done next to being a potential Bomberman fan

Images of the short-lived ABC TGIF show "Aliens in the Family" has been buried deep in my brain cavities for 30 years. Apparently it only had 8 episodes. Now you too know it exists.

One more Aliens in the Family post - I like how they were trying to make "walking into the garage to something weird & unexpected" a running gag.

At this point, it wouldn't surprise me if the green orb from Heavy Metal was real.

Pope Leo XIV has been gifted a massive green orb and honestly not now massive green orb

A year ago or so I started adding a software renderer to my engine because well... I was curious, and I wanted to go through that awesome tinyrenderer guide. There's no good reason to work on this, but I did it anyway, and now it's more or less reached parity with my GL renderer (but god is it slow)

I wanted to see how many Photoshop blend modes were possible using glBlendFunc + glBlendEquation (as well as SDL_ComposeCustomBlendMode), and as far as I can tell, the answer is 12 (-ish - would require a blog post). Also used the duck from the W3C CSS draft for funsies.

Was surprised that game engines basically give you 4-5 presets, and tell you to use a custom function if you want something more complicated, but having looked at a lot of the permutations, I get it now. Most are junk or probably only useful in certain alpha blending situations.

This tiny music player is the result of a ton of audio (and font) programming. I needed a way to quickly test audio formats, and metadata reading, so it made sense to build this out. It even reads m3u files, and 24-bit audio (although I can't hear the difference between it and 16-bit).
