One thing I wish people understood about authoritarianism is life often looks more or less the same. Troops aren’t marching down the street every day; people go to restaurants, have their office jobs. But everyone knows that stepping out of line, even slightly, can derail your life with no recourse

1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but 2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but 3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So 4. Now the LLM code points to malware.

LLMs hallucinating nonexistent software packages with plausible names leads to a new malware vulnerability: "slopsquatting."

Is 60 minutes using AI for their news presenters?

60 Minutes found no criminal record for 75% of the Venezuelan migrants the U.S. sent to a mega-prison in El Salvador. https://cbsn.ws/4lC4Vp5

Claude Code is not even there for boilerplate projects, at least as how they are trying to make it look like. I asked it to create a simple expo app and was not able to make it run after an hour, 5 bucks and multiple bash script attempts, It ended up with this `start-fresh-project.sh` suggestion:

Hardly new info, but BSky should know: Warsaw's water quality is monitored by eight clams with magnets attached to their shells. If contamination in the water causes the clams to close, the magnets trigger an alarm and shut off the city's water supply. Thank you, little guardian molluscs. 🧪🌏🚰

Every review of AI is like: This isn’t very useful and it makes it harder to do simple tasks than if I just did it myself. Riddled with errors. Can’t see anyone using this. I feel stupider having tried this. That said I believe it will soon make human cognition redundant and eradicate us all.

Watching some of these non-Musk tech firms jump behind the anti-DEI wave feels to me like a miscalculation, extrapolating current trends out infinitely into the future. It's possible the decline of a lot of the corporate DEI stuff - never very sincere - is receding, but latching to Trump is risky.

1. Impact. How much revenue does my work protect or generate? 2. Quality. Does my work meet or exceed customer expectations? 3. Efficiency. Reward making the right buy versus build decision. 4. Reusability. How do others leverage my work? 5. Supportability. How much work do I create for others?

Was in Mexico and oh boy, was surprised by the number of Chinese cars/dealerships compared to 2 years ago. Imagine all the data those cars are generating. China growing its trade with the Rest of the World while US is going rogue with tariffs seems like the wrong US strategy for the long term.

I basically disassociate when I start hearing these stories.

One thing about me is that I do absolutely suck at listening to stories about weird, apparently paranormal things that happened to you. 100% intolerable “that was definitely a drone” and “you can stop worrying about your past lives because they don’t exist” shit.

When someone says “the president is not a dictator” and you say “maybe soon though” I worry that that’s a akin to “obeying in advance.” No. The president of the US is not a dictator. Even if he would like to be, we will not allow it.

This is crazy. Surgically inserted microchip that generate electrical pulses the brain can interpret. The chip receives beams from glasses with a camera. I luv technology.
