Today you can get a domain name for ~$10 and host your own website from your computer that has signed certificates, dynamic dns, and run just about any kind of service. Media server, blog, federated social network, game server, etc. It has never been easier to make your own space on the internet.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

If you’ve run models that can actually function on consumer grade hardware then you know how full of shit Dario is here. Without data centers, general use models are about as useful as a toddler with internet access. Only highly focused models are useful on consumer hardware and it’s barely useful.

Surely slopping out the games will make people like Epic Games more! Tim Sweeney is a daft fucking man.

Jason Schreier@jasonschreier.bsky.social

NEW: Epic Games has delayed its upcoming (not yet announced) Star Wars + Marvel shooter as it pivots to complete AI game development. "No more hand-written code," a director told staff. All art "generated with full AI workflows." Full scoop: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

So far the only retort from the AI boosters appears to be “2025 doesn’t matter” and I’m not kidding

Ed Zitron@edzitron.com

Reuters got some of the IPO docs. Anthropic is a total dog of a company. Spent $12.6bn to make $4.6bn in revenue in 2025, $7.33bn of which was compute costs. Operating loss of $8bn. Losses getting worse year over year. Amazing stuff www.reuters.com/business/fin...

If I “unintentionally” hacked anybody, let alone a foreign government I would be arrested and charged with multiple felonies. Why are these AI companies treated as above the law? Does this mean if I create Richard’s AI LLC, I have free rein to commit “accidental” felonies?

Every single person with knowledge of this crime who did nothing to stop it or report it belongs in prison.

Sen. Susan Collins helped steer millions in federal defense contracts to Navatek, whose CEO illegally funneled thousands of dollars to her campaign. The FBI sought to launch a probe and was eyeing Collins and other lawmakers. Then Trump gutted the unit in charge. THREAD 🧵

Hey @governor.ca.gov You know what will hurt jobs in Hollywood? Allowing further consolidation amongst the media oligarchs. The first thing that follows two giant corporations merging is layoffs. Every time. In every industry. The best thing for your constituents is to stop the Ellison oligarchs.

Nick Field@nickfield.bsky.social

The State AGs were on pace to kill the Paramount/Warner Bros by litigation and delay until Gavin Newsom stepped in and turned the tide. Now the Trump loyalist Ellisons will control CNN and HBO. Don't ever, ever forget that Newsom stabbed us in the back www.wsj.com/business/med...

Guess I’ll just keep pirating everything that I want to watch from the media oligarchs. It’s never been easier.

Two ideas from this article resonate 1. The “rogue AI agent” hacking incidents are more failures of test design and oversight than examples of runaway AI. 2. Focus on existential risk helps distract from concrete harms happening now from government misuse to companies using AI against workers.

Read this article and you should rapidly concude that $10m is not NEARLY enough. She was taken at gunpoint, jailed for six months, and lost all her belongings. The PD relied solely on AI facial recognition from *a fake fscking ID* used by the real perpetrator. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

It’s not radical to believe you should be able to afford groceries, see a doctor, breathe clean air, and drink clean water. There’s nothing more American than fighting for a government of, by, and for the people.

Is this supposed to make anyone feel better? If you want to make a meaningful change you’ll take down every single camera you put up and liquidate your dogshit company.

The Verge@theverge.com

Flock is rolling out updates to address reports of cops across the country abusing its tools to stalk ex-romantic partners. The ACLU released an analysis of the changes, which it says appear “more focused on addressing a perceived PR problem than the significant harms its products create.”

Dear city, county, and state officials, Nobody wants this corporate spyware bullshit thats profits from the violation of our rights. Its not about flock specifically, but every company that does anything like them. Including literally the entirety of the data broker industry.

404 Media@404media.co

NEW: Rather than get rid of ALPR cameras entirely after backlash to Flock, many cities and towns are switching to Axon, whose cameras can be mounted to an existing streetlamp, helping them blend into their surroundings.

Damn, somebody or their bot decided to REALLY hammer my homelab last night. I average about 200-300 IDS/IPS events over 24 hours usually. These last 24 hours were almost 800 events! If my #homelab is going to get hammered Im glad its showing up on this list and not by way of compromised machines 😅

I truly just hope that scalpers lose everything. Not just the people who are ruining card games, but every scalper in every industry. I wish there was a way to get the entire community to just stop feeding these damn scalpers.

The hobbit collector booster boxes are moving up to $1k per box, having public bounties for chase cards is not helping making these products collectible

@flocksafety.bsky.social CEO Garrett Langley is a liar who is telling you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. These ALPR systems are corporate spyware used to allow local, state, and federal governments to violate your rights for profit.

I for one, am shocked that mecha hitler would just steal all your code without permission. I was told they definitely respect consent…just don’t pay attention to their history of nonconsensual pornographic photos generated by the platform.

we pinky swear we will delete the data we hoovered up in a country too corrupt to pass or enforce privacy laws whose regulators have been disemboweled 😇🥸

Is Rockstar shipping discless “physical” copies of GTA6 because they’re trying something new? Or is it because they know they won’t have a functional game in time to get physical copies on the shelves? Because I’d be willing to bet it’s the latter.

UFC Freedom 250, sponsored by companies you definitely shouldn’t ever give your money to. With a crowd of pedophiles and pedophile protectors.

Lotta people out there thinking N1X is some newfangled chip that's going to change Windows PCs forever. I don't think they realize the same chip's been in DGX Spark for a while (and even that was delayed). Microsoft trying to hype this thing up like it's the next M-series

It turns out using tax dollars to install privately owned mass surveillance systems that nobody asked for is problematic...who knew. 🙄

WotC declined to voluntarily recognize our union by Friday, May 1st. While we're disappointed in this delay, together we remain strong in our convictions. We look forward to sitting down at the bargaining table so we can make Arena better for workers, for Wizards, and for our players. #UWOTC-CWA

Finally some good news.

I want to be very clear about something: for OpenAI to be able to pay the deals it has signed it will have to be ten to fifteen times its current revenue and have raised at least another $150 billion. If it fails, Oracle will run out of money, and not pay its debts.

Californians, don’t forget to go vote Yes on prop 50! It’s the only opportunity we will get to balance the scales leading up to the midterms next year.

My favorite thing about a #homelab is that the only reason I notice AWS is having problems is when I’m working or see it on social media.

The macOS 26 beta 6 update borked my M2 Mac Studio. Whoops. Time to put my backup solution to a proper test, it seems. It’s been so long since I’ve had to do a complete erase and reinstall on any of my Apple devices. I’m just glad I’ve got my work MacBook to be able to do a DFU restore.

The good news, my Time Machine backup to my NAS was in good working order. The bad news, DNS problems caused restoring from the NAS to fail multiple times before I realized it 🥲 The default rate limiting on Pi-hole, 1000/minute, was temporarily blocking the Time Machine restoration.

The most jarring thing added to iOS 26 has to be automix in Apple Music. I hope they let you adjust the parameters; otherwise, it’s just going to get turned off. It’s a neat idea, but right now, it’s bad. It’s playing like 60% of a song and then doing a slow crossfade 1/3rd of the way into the next.
