speaking as a lifelong global traveler: getting to the airport early has saved my ass from massive travel disruptions so many times that I now view it as a key travel survival skill. Also, I love airport bars.

Olivia is a generational talent. So much fun to watch.

I fly United. A lot. I love United. (Really. App, website, service, etc. - 10/10, big fan.) Except for their inflight wifi, which was designed by someone who I can only imagine is compensated for how many minutes per login session fliers spend waiting to complete the 97 step login/purchase flow.

today I flew a United Express flight, one of the early Bombardier planes that has Starlink. I cannot stand you-know-who. But this? THIS? 🤯 I... I am reconsidering my insistence on direct flights only. (United / Starlink is right now only on the smaller fleet, afaik.)

do I have any friends who listen to records and track their collection on Discogs? Have a fun project to share...

I'm not sure if this is at the level of @rickklau.com's clothes hanger trick, but you can use your hotel key to trigger an Apple Shortcut. So you can set up one to give you directions back to your hotel whenever you tap your card to your iPhone. creators.yahoo.com/lifestyle/st...

A lifetime ago I livetweeted a brutal delay at O’Hare from the bar at K16 (?) - spawning a decade or so of lovely #airportbar tweets from friends. Today I discovered Williams & Graham at Gate A38 at Denver airport. A speakeasy. Inside an airport. 🤯😍

after upgrading to MacOS 26, Chrome was finally able to auto-paste OTPs from Messages. But over the last few days, it just... stopped? Chrome is updated, so is MacOS. Am I missing something? Or did this get disabled?

Even if you don’t believe in the ethic of “love thy neighbor,” it’s important to remember that the core goal of USAID is to use soft power (foreign aid) to complement our nation’s hard power (the U.S. military) in a shared effort to make America safer. 🧵 8/8

However, after traveling to Ethiopia and Guatemala and hearing from many experts in the field, it’s clear to me that an extremely practical way to make our world a more stable and peaceful place is to invest in modern development aid, in concert with the family of nations. 🧵 7/8

The DOGE initiative then eliminated about $8 billion more in foreign aid, and now, the White House is fighting to withhold about $5 billion more in foreign aid funding — all in the name of making our country stronger and safer. 🧵 6/8

Earlier this year, the Trump State Department announced that nearly 5,800 USAID contracts worth $54 billion were being eliminated (representing a 92% reduction of what had already been awarded to the agency) because “they were not aligned with the administration's priorities.” 🧵 5/8

I’m sharing these posts in response to President Trump’s argument — which he has used to justify dismantling USAID — that leading the fight against extreme poverty on our planet doesn’t advance an “America First” agenda. 🧵 4/8

If, like me, you embrace the universal moral tenet referred to by Christians as “love thy neighbor,” I hope that each time you vote, you remember that election results can, especially for privileged Americans, have a far greater impact on those in extreme poverty than they will ever have on you 🧵2/8

Nearly 10% of humanity (~800M people in 2025) struggles to live on less than $3 a day. It’s important for Americans to appreciate that reality — and the growing gap between the extremely poor & the extremely privileged — because, as USAID demonstrated, our nation has the power to change it. 🧵 1/8

classroom.ricksteves.comWhat Extreme Poverty Looks LikeTen percent of humanity struggles to live on under $2 a day. That, and the gap between the extremely poor and the more privileged, is important to see.

not yet ready to share publicly, but last week I got to have breakfast with one of my heroes. Someone I've admired for years, someone I hope to learn from in the years ahead. I emailed ~6 months ago asking for a meeting. He invited me to his house for breakfast. I'm still buzzing.

In the midst of <waves hands>all this</waves hands>, it was a singularly uplifting 2 hours of conversation. No big lessons, no think pieces. Just... meet your heroes. Look for the helpers. 🙏🏻

Looking for a laptop backpack. I tried the Wirecutter rec (the Troubador) and *really* don't like it (doesn't hold a water bottle, doesn't hold its shape, interior compartments don't organize/separate items well). Who has a laptop backpack they love? (sharing my must-haves in next post)

My must-haves: * slides over rollaboard handle * holds Macbook air + Kindle (nice if it also has a sleeve for iPad) * securely holds water bottle * comfortable shoulder-straps * separate compartments for headphones, notebook, pens, power cords
