Well... I successfully defended my PhD today. Which means I can finally say: Hello, I'm Dr Erin Johanson. 🎓🥹 (Please allow me to be absolutely insufferable about this for at least the next six months.) #PhD #History #MentalHealthHistory

More than 200,000 Danish citizens have signed a petition to buy California as a response to Trump’s attempt to take Greenland. They say they will provide Californians with “rule of law, universal health care, fact-based politics, and a lifetime supply of Danish pastries.”

It's my birthday today. If you can donate to this for @bookaidint.bsky.social i would be eternally grateful. If you can't donate, please share 🙏🏼♥️

Some of the vaulted ceilings at Peterborough Cathedral still retain their medieval painted decoration…fictive masonry, or ashlaring, with a classic flower motif 😍

Often tell myself I'm being a pompous a**hole in my writing. Bluntness works well. Final chapter of my thesis to edit before I have a full final draft. Aiming to submit my #phd in April next year. Quietly freaking out. #phdlife #research #histmed #history #historian

Reminder that from the beginning of next year I’m available for work! Writing, narrative design, historical & narrative consultancy, research, teaching. I’m particularly fond of applying historical approaches to worldbuilding & storytelling in interactive mediums

All the ornaments are handmade - printed, trimmed, mounted, and ribboned by me and my wonderful Saturday team helping bring the tree to life. It’s one of my favourite library traditions each year.

So here’s the thing: I, a certified Disabled™️ Person, do not actually care if anyone fakes for an extra 20 minutes on the test. I care deeply about how the fear of that very thing puts up flaming hoops disabled people have to jump through. Maybe listen to disabled folk on this one.

mtsw@mtsw.bsky.social

Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

Strike fatigue is real. Especially when we continue to see that strike action doesn't give any real results.

Unfortunately the HE 2025 ballot failed at 39% turnout. I have written about why and about what desperately needs to change in UCU's national structures off the back of this result. Some HEC members need to chi up and understand their role in all this, and how disconnected they are from members.
