Having to watch that joyless 13-6 OT slog and witness your team STILL lose is what every cornball UM Tri-State alum deserves! Your safety school that you convinced yourself into attending still sucks shit!

Culturally, he was also a force: the GIFs, the league transition off court to feature players’ wardrobe A truly one-of-a-kind player

I’ve said this before, but I think Russell Westbrook’s legacy will age tremendously with time. The stats, the accolades, the highlights, the “me against the world” mentality, all of it. Russ was truly one-of-one. Congrats on a legendary career. 🙌

Drew’s given me the opportunity to bemoan what’s happened to GQ in the last five years, so I’ll take the opportunity to mention that the pub currently employs my former coworker Frazier Tharpe, whose writing was always fucking ass. But hey! The SUMMERMAN got to interview his big idol Jigga for GQ!

Drew Magary@drewmagary.bsky.social

I’ll tell you why really aggravates me about this Sophie Cunningham shit. In my line of work, the profile is all but dead. We used to do them at GQ all the time, back when the magazine was great and EIC Jim Nelson let us paint the subject warts and all… www.gq.com/story/duck-d...

Replying to @cooperlund.online

Part of this is a decade+ of training yourself to see online as a PvP-enabled zone, sure, but the bigger thing is that there’s just people who are online so they can be dicks to strangers, and use political righteousness as a justification now

Keeping a folder of screenshots of things that you can use to dunk on someone later is proof that there’s people who never stopped behaving like it’s Twitter in 2016 and want to be mean to centrist pundits in a place that doesn’t really have any so badly that they’re inventing them.

I think the pay-to-play discussion has been consistently and reliably stupid, and I am tired of it. And so I am happy to publish something from someone who I think is consistently and reliably smart about these things. If you're a US fan looking for a dose of post-World Cup optimism, here you go.

Pay-to-play, MLS academies and the growth of the US player pipeline: Have we reached a tipping point? a guest post from @pragidealist.bsky.social, who you should give a follow. tacticsfreezone.ghost.io/pay-to-play-...

Real “I NEED TO BE MOTIVATED!!!!” hours when everything went from correctly joking about Graham’s death to now just being mad at Democrats. Would be great for voters and poasters alike to realize: you don’t like the messaging of Dems this AM? Go out and replace them in a primary!

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

The Democratic Party's approval rating is in the toilet, and the main reason is voters see Dem leaders and prominent members acting like things are basically okay instead of fighting like there's an emergency. Slot "my friend Lindsey Graham, so funny, how great to work with him" comments into that.

The whole reason for these kicking-and-screaming posts is to continue trying to be “right” online. Dems didn’t cover themselves in glory, but anyone posting like Jane did help influence the macro environment for swing and normie voters to stay home or vote Trump bc Dems were seen to be “feckless”

I just want it to be known that a lot of people’s faves are responsible for not just amplifying Ken but Stoller and especially Grim when they were going after HRC and Biden—anyone seen as a mainstream Dem. They are certainly complicit in those dudes plus the ones below having any oxygen online!!

Sean T. Collins@seantcollins.com

I don't know what to call the specific political tendency represented by Ryan Grim, Ken Klippenstein, Matt Stoller, Michael Tracey, Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibbi, and Zaid Jilani, mostly because words sort of fail, but it isn't "the Left."

I hate that this is my current state but I need Morocco to pull it together to expose and eliminate Canada’s brand of anti-soccer to prevent the most annoying Canadians from experiencing any joy

The Supreme Court decides LeBron James CAN return to Cleveland in a 5-4 decision; Alito (shithead) and Thomas (worse) write the dissent that he should join the Warriors

The issue since 2015 is that a lot of people (including a lot of your faves!) think that Dem politicians need to convince you and others into voting for them by converting you into a “fan.” That’s wrong, and I think partially caused both Dem losses in 2016 and 2020

This is true but I can’t figure out to what this RT, and the original Grossman post, are riffing off. If it’s just “too online wannabe political consultants are again making up a Democratic guy to get made at,” buddies, I have a wonderful soccer tournament that you can tap into to log off.

We’re gonna win the fucking World Cup

The thing with Republican voters is they’re all idiots, so throwing them a small bone keeps them in line. All Dem-leaning voters are Goldilocks masquerading as a political consultant. As @cooperlund.online always points out, criticizing Dems allows you to gain clout among Dem-leaners.

public health guy@publichealthguy1.bsky.social

democrats appear to be broadly underestimating the base's anger right now. that's not really a problem for the midterms, purely in terms of electoral strategy (see @gelliottmorris.com's analysis), but i have a feeling it will be disruptive down the road in unforeseen ways

Also, fighting to preserve your democracy is a lifelong battle. Getting disillusioned and mad and giving up because you can’t affect generational change with one small trick after 50 years of the deck being stacked against you is loser shit

It’s probably “Paper Planes” tbh

the babahuck@tylerhuckabee.bsky.social

had a debate last night about the definitive millennial song. some contenders: mgmt’s “kids,” yeah yeah yeah’s “maps,” kanye’s “all of the lights,” arcade fire’s “wake up,” postal service’s “such great heights,” animal collective’s “my girls,” lcd soundsystem’s “all my friends,” stroke’s “last nite”

Walk-up music should be “Cousins”

Grant Brisbee@grantbrisbee.bsky.social

Most people wouldn’t feel deep shame when they learn that Harrison Bader’s cousin is the bassist for Vampire Weekend. They’d think, “oh, mildly interesting.” Not me, though. Finding out about it this late gives me an existential crisis. What am I here for if not to know little factlets like this?

Anyways, it’s been a decade of this shit and while Kim’s an incredible reporter, I really, truly do not want to hear about the state of things or the Democratic Party from someone who admits they seldom vote

It’s easier to get mad at mom than rightfully and continually direct your anger at your shithead dad

ghost malone ergo propter bones@proptermalone.bsky.social

the absolute flood of "waaaaaaaah but i want to be mad at Dems about this" posts are doing very little to convince me i'm incorrect but are sure making me think some things about their authors but like i said, whatever makes you happy

Glad the Internet is finally (after a decade) realizing it’s not actually productive discourse to entertain dipshits online who think they can Goldilocks their way through political choices, when our current reality is very black and white: a D next to the name is all you need 99% of the time

internettheo2.bsky.social@internettheo2.bsky.social

Threatening not to vote just shouldn’t be as much a thing as it is in progressive spaces instead of being the fucking constant monotonous feature that it is and more then anything else if you’re doing that over Newson you’re just telling me and everyone else that what’s happening now is nbd to you.

I will remain a bonafide NFL hater and say I wish nothing but the worst for both of these fanbases while my favorite pro football team, the Browns, exists in its eternal state of malaise and will never come close to this game in my lifetime

Read this as “Ho Spice” at first. Anyways, my great-uncle was Lou’s HS football coach who got Lou into coaching, so I appreciate my family had the long-tail effect of bringing this graphic to fruition.
