God damn, all those APSAs in DC we were just lucky not to be killed, folks

Trump on DC: "Nobody wanted to eat out. They were afraid. Even if you were in the restaurant, people would walk in and like the Wild West, 'Hold it up!' Everybody is standing there. Can you imagine? A fancy restaurant. They were robbing the whole restaurant. It's crazy."

I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

The speed with which so many execs cozied up to this authoritarian says more about their revealed preferences than long term strategic thinking. They saw a chance for what they saw as a "business friendly" autocrat and oligarchic consolidation and jumped at it.

if only there had been a way to predict this might happen based on nearly every midterm election cycle in modern american political history

“The director won’t protect even our most respected analysts when they tell hard truths, so they stopped telling them & learned to avoid topics the White House didn’t want to hear… Ratcliffe isn’t protecting the CIA from politicization; he’s leading it” And that’s the death of the CIA

theatlantic.comThe Man in the Middle of Trump’s Deeply Conflicted Ukraine PolicyCIA Director John Ratcliffe leads an agency that’s at war with Russia, even as Trump makes nice with Putin.

This! 100% this 👇 If you don’t punish coup perpetrators & plotters, you are begging for them to succeed next time around.

One benefit of holding leaders accountable for crimes is that if Flávio Bolsonaro tries to overturn this election, he knows exactly where he’d end up. In prison, next to his father.

The Two-Round electoral system is a pretty good one It’s also an old system dating back to France’s July Monarchy of 1832. Later on, Michel included it in the constitution of the V Republic. The aim? Eliminate small/radical parties/candidates.

Brazil’s results tonight are a big endorsement for the idea that every country should have a second “are you you sure about that” election a couple weeks after the first one for the important stuff

A historic power shift in Serbia promises to make it more democratic, less pro-Putin. Question is, will gangster-allied Serbian nationalism become less virulent? Will Serbs accept the rule of law — and guarantee press freedom — so EU membership is finally possible? apnews.com/article/serb...

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

Gather round children and I'll tell you of a time when it was unthinkable the US would cut off vital weapons systems to an ally fighting a Russian invasion and a week later it remained an open question whether the president or a ketamine-addled oligarch gave the order. Sounds crazy, but it's true.

Just to clarify something to those who aren’t familiar with Algeria: there will unlikely be any explanation or clarification about this deployment or the nature or scope of the deployment from the Algerian government and/or military. It’s total omertà, as usual.

Literally unprecedented. Algeria to deployment military troops/units to Niger. From what I’m hearing, it’s an open deployment. The official line is to protect investments in the oil sectors (construction of the Nigeria-Niger-Algeria pipeline & facilities). Unofficially, it’s an open mission.

The soaring costs of public universities is a political decision. When these schools predominantly served white students, they tended to be free (UC, CCNY, etc.) But as the number of students of color has increased, funding for the public universities has decreased. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/b...

@gabrielzucman.bsky.social: So let met get that straight: paying a wealth tax is impossible (“billionaires have no liquidity”, “it would be taxing unrealized gains”, “their wealth is virtual”) but one man paying half a billion to influence elections is possible. Did I understand well?

This is surprising, & I’m happy it is surprising.

Somebody needs to revisit some literature on what leadership means. the notion that you should stay quiet in the face of moral injustice (for political expediency) and then expect folks to follow you into battle afterwards is bananas

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

I love the passive aggressive undertone of this post

Merriam-Webster@merriam-webster.com

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

By this standard, the civil right movement would have never been born. For that matter, no political movement opposing a heinous status quo would have seen the light. FWIW, that is not how opposition parties should behave.

A friend sent me this, & I had to open Twitter for the 1st time in a very long while (by the way, it’s literally a stinking sewer pipe now… with explicit porn right in the open), to check if this post by Marco Rubio is real. Well, it is! Our reality is unreal. We are collectively hallucinating

He has nothing to campaign on other than pure xenophobia & hate. It’s the message around which his base coalesces… and he knows that moves his base.
